My daughter is suffered from asthma since young, she cant stand cold weather, too dusty environment, she is also allergic to seafood. I am so worried about this. Some told me that it'll automatically be cured once she grows older. Is there any food that's good for her ? Is really swimming can be helpful?

I have had asthma since I was a child, and yeah its the cold weather that brings it on,
there is no known cure for asthma other than preventer inhalers, I am lucky its really only the cold weather and dusty enviroment's that set me off.
If your daughter been diagnosed then they prob have discussed preventer's etc etc
theres no reason to be worried I have no bad episodes and I don't really have any problems with asthma its just something you learn to deal with.

well I live in the north uk and currently its minus 10 centigrade plus wind chill factor,
I have also been in new york when it was minus 20 that was cold,
and yes as the temperature drops my asthma gets worse I don't suffer as much now as I have preventer's which open up your air way tho I still get tightenning of my chest and also am prone to pneumonia and chest infections.
But apart from that its really no big deal you just learn to live with it.

Can asthma be cured? Not according to doctors, but it can (and should) be controlled. However, as previous answers mentioned, some people seemed to have recovered completely from it, if they've had it as a child. A cousin of mine had it bad when we were young, but swimming and aggressive treatment early (plus eating healthy) seemed to have "cured" him. I've had mine since I was 5, suffered quite a bit then, but it's now mild, yet am instructed to keep taking an inhaler.
Don't worry about your daughter. Just do anything you can to keep the allergens that trigger her asthma to a low level, i.e. dust (clean her room often), cold weather (move to a milder climate) to help her. Make sure viral & bacterial infections are treated early if she catches these, because they make asthma a lot worse, not to mention, cause a lot more problems later on. Start her on sports activities, like swimming, that'll help develop her lung function. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the well-wishes, and same to you!
There is a genetic link with asthma, although in our case, it's different since my cousin is adopted. With him, it could be more environmental than genetic, but can't really tell for sure as we have no info on his birth parents/relatives. We lived in the same neighborhood after we turned 7, but there was hardly any air pollution there, unlike in our previous cities. His stepdad, though, smoked when he was around, which wasn't often due to his job (traveled much).
I'm not so sure about the link between food allergies & asthma. Allergic reactions can & do cause breathing problems, as in anaphylaxis, but my understanding of asthma being a chronic/long-term condition doesn't jive with an episodic occurrence. However, allergies are known to make asthma worse.
The best thing in your daughter's case is to get as much information as you can about what causes HER asthma, and the best way to respond to it. Medical books in libraries (or the Web, if you can access any) are great sources. Treatment-wise, you can try all sorts of stuff, but I'd caution against trying unproven methods. I'm not against naturopathy and homeoepathy, but I'd coordinate these with medical info. It's advisable to go with licensed practitioners, too.

Thanks for your advises 1corner.....it takes quite some time to find out what made her asthma worse....until now we still find n try....Just to try to avoid those allergens than she'll be better. What i'm afraid is in certain circumstances...just say ..on fire, will her asthma suddenly become worse...or maybe if she goes to Snowcity or Genting Highland...can she stand the coldness...she never brings any inhaler along, mayb hers considered mild so doctor never suggested that. Thanks for your sharing...and sorry for my poor english...hope u understand what i meant.

I think it can be cured with time, but will take quite longer than necessary. I have been told that patients need to stay away from really cold weather, panic situations and also not to run about so much. If someone with asthma can stay indoors and do indoor things, slowly the illness can be cured, I think.

I have heard that some children can outgrown it -but it is not an absolute certainty.
I myself got asthma when I was a child of about 12 years. I still ave it today- 30 years later. For me it only got worse. Allergies do not help. There are medications that are very helpful in preventing it like Advair. And albuterol for emergency situations.
Swimming may be helpful in that it is a good low impact way of getting exercise.
I don't have allergies to seafood -but if she is very allergic -don't let her have any it could kill her.
Good things for asthma if it is bothering you is a cup of tea (with caffeine) or even some coffee- caffeine helps open the bronchial airways.

I don't think there is a known CURE for asthma but there are many things that can be done to make it manageable.
I'm sure there is some acupuncture that may help. I have used meds and it helps it
pretty well. It is a bit expensive though. :(

As I understand it there's currently no cure for asthma! I have asthma myself and I've this from the age of three! I take regular medication which includes two asthma pumps. I was once told that my asthma would leave me once I entered adulthood! Well, I still have asthma although I do manage my asthma very carefully. It is true that some people grow out of the condition and their asthma leaves them completely, unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones. I had plans to enter the Royal Navy, I wanted to do this so much but when it came to applying I was told that I needed a clear chest for five years so my plans were ruined. Swimming is a very good form of exercise for asthmatics and I used to swim on a regular basis myself but had to stop due to financial difficulty. It would be a wonderful thing if your daughter grew out of the condition! Everyone is different and she may be lucky. I wish both you and your daughter well! Andrew

Hi, yes I read the post. As I understand it there currently is no cure for asthma although a lot of research is being carried out. They may be a cure at some point in the future but we have not reached that stage as yet. I have suffered with asthma all my life and sadly I think I will have asthma for the rest of my life unless they come up with a cure within my life time. Asthma can definitely be prevented though and as another My Lotter has mentioned, swimming is very good for this. I'm in control of my asthma and I handle things well. If there was a cure for asthma it would have been talked about in a big way on the news. I wish you all the best though as well as your daughter. I sincerely hope that she grows out of it. Andrew

hi, my cousin has asthma too, frankly speaking, asthma can not be cured completely from my counsin's experience, but it can be prevented, really! but do let her keep a spray with her for any emergency that what my cousin does as well.
for the allergy thing, some doctors suggest trying to get petient a VERY VERY little amount allergen(little amount of seafood the causes allergy for you daughter's case), and gradually your doctor's body and immune system will get used to the allergen. BUT please be careful it's just what i've heard from others so if you want to have a try please ask around or consult your doctor for good.

I'm not sure if there are homeopathy methods that can help cure asthma. I am also asthmatic and as long as I am not under a lot of stress, my asthma is controllable. Last year was one of my bad asthma attacks where I was constantly coughing for more than a month. I guess if you take medication regularly, this can help control asthma.

i think asthma can be brought on by different things such as i have thyroid issues right now and read that that can bother asthma. i dont know that you can grow out of it, but anything is possible. you should do some research on the net in regards to that.

im not really a doctor but based from my friend's experience, it can be cured in time. one friend of my mine used to have asthma and when he decided to go body building, strangely, his being asthmatic is gone. another friend of mine decide to go jogging at first and after months of jogging daily, his asthma is gone and now playing marathon. the way i see it, it seems that people with asthma need more exercises for their lungs to function properly. but still, its best to ask doctors advice. happy new year asanlee

I do not know if it can be totally cured, but it surely can get better. My younger brother had asthma, he couldn't stand changing weather, allergic to shrimp and crabs, but he never suffers from it anymore as he grow older. He can now eat whatever he wants, stay in cold weather without problem. I don't know if he's cured because I'm not a doctor. I'm sure there's a big possibility for your daughter to get better.

As far as my knowledge goes, no it can't be cured...ever. But it can be grown out of. I used to have bad asthma attacks when I was young (2-10 yrs old). Even had to go to the hospital a few times. Ever since high school, I haven't had a major asthma attack. It would kick up every now and then.
Now I'm about to graduate from college and I don't have a problem with it at all. I have an albuterol inhaler just in case, but i haven't used it in nearly 7 years. I think i've officially grown out of having asthma. I know that most people aren't that lucky. There are grown adults that still have asthma and have to stay away from stuff that triggers it (smoke, pets, etc)

Ashtma can be cured. There are a lot of exercises for it. Especially, your daughter should be advised with some breathing exercises and swimming is extremely good. But stay away from dust and also, you can look into the internet. There is one man from Hyderabad, India who cures ashtma using a fish. All he does is, takes a tablet puts into the mouth of a living fish, and just pops it into the mouth of the patient, and they just have to swallow it in one gulp. This treatment has been going on for years, and many patients have been cured till now. It's a very famous treatment, you can give it a try.
But yoga is really helpful. Go to some holistic healing centers and take some therapy. It will benefit your daughter's health. Good luck!

Asthma is take some care to limit exposure to the triggers that can cause an asthmatic attack. Yes, with effective medication, preventive measures, etc, asthma can be effectively treated and managed.
I advice your daughter please don't believe rumors of others just take relax, keep away from dust and drink large amounts of liquids as this will help your daughter loosen chest mucus during asthma bronchitis.
