my job requires me to answer many many phone calls. when i say that there is no shortage of weirdos, i am not kidding. i get ore calls from people who want to describe their symptoms to me. i mean, sir, we hardly know each other. are you sure thay you want me to know that you have a rash around your rectum and that it is now infected. i know. gross right. but imagine getting that same caller back to back. i shudder just thinking about it. of course you have the normal callers who are looking for patients or who want to make an appointment. but i can almost guarantee that there is going to be one gross person with an equally gross medical problem. let me hear your strangest, weirdest, most insane calls

wow! I can see that. well I don't answer phone calls at work but I love to hear people's story if they would like to relate them to me. A good listener is more needed than a speaker sometimes. See? people are created with two ears and one mouth, which requires us to listen more and speak less.

that is an obvious statement, right. listen more. i agree. i spend most of the phone time on mute because we have to listen to the whole story to realize that she needed to speak to someone in medical records about a concern of diagnosis. the anser lies in the last five minutes of her monologue but if you dont really listen, then it sounds like a complaint and she gets tranferred to the wrong department.

yeah, i know what you mean. i have relatives that call all the numbers they have for me without giving me time to answer any of them. they'll leave a message saying that it is urgent. when i call them back they say ask me about other relatives or did i see something on tv. im always in utter disbelief. especially when they call me at work.

I work for an answering service- my job IS answering phone calls!
I have those weirdos too. And then there are the stupid people (I started a discussion on those)
I hear you and sympathize :-)
