Child Abuse: A Hypothetical Situation

When I was still in high school I used to volunteer at a headstart. One of the children I work with was obviously being abused by his parents, and while the teachers reported his abuse the child was never removed from the situation, and as far as I know no one intervened. A year ago I saw this child much older, and obviously disturbed. It made me wonder if any teacher has ever kidnapped a child in order to protect them from an abusive situation after the system failed. If you were a teacher, neighbor, friend, and the only option you could see to save a child was to step in yourself legally, or illegally, would you?

Not only would I be willing to step in legally, but if it took it, yes illegally. I would have that kid in a safe place in a heart beat if I knew without a doubt that there was abuse going on. It is just the right thing to do. Kids have to depend on those who can do things for them when they can not do it for themselves. Just my 2 cents worth.

Good question. I am not sure what I'd do if the services didn't take them. I would feel bad leaving them but would I take them myself? I don't know. Well obviously it isn't good for the child to stay in an abused environment. It may affect their learning or development or their mental health and well being or maybe other stuff in life. I guess it depends on why the parent is abusing them in the first place and seeing if there is a way of working with the parent to see why they're doing it and see if it can be stopped? If they found it hard to care for the child then maybe help and support to help them to do it effectively but then I guess any parent could try to find some excuse for abuse and I guess there really is no excuse.

That is what's wrong with the law, even if we mean good we still have to follow procedure so no one can kidnap a child to protect him or her- it's still illegal. One shuld just report it as many times as possible s they will take action.
