My friends and I were having this discussion lately and they said that if you had to I would get used to eating food without salt .Now I was saying that I dont think I could get used to eating food without salt because it just taste really funny and sometimes I have to put in extra salt for tatse. My friend on the other hand was saying that we get salt naturally from the food we eat in the form of sodium and chloride (which together is the components of salt ) and as such shouldnt need any supplement. He also made the point that diabetes and people with high blood pressure have to eat food without salt so what if I was in such a position .Needless to say I couldnt answer
Do you think you coudl get used to eating food without salt

U better cut back, young man before u are forced to. Alot of that can be habit. My dad always re-salted everything before he even tasted of it. Eating too much salt can affect your health & we don't want u having any problems, they are no fun, believe me.

I stopped putting salt in my cooking about the time my son was born,My husband used to eat the salt cellar it is a wonder he is still alive. If you put mixed herbs in cooking and use other herbs you don't acutally miss it.You should get enough salt from the food you eat anyway. We still eat crisps, chips with salt and vinegar but we use low salt for the table.I only add salt occasionally.I do not miss it at all.I cook from scratch most days ,we do sometimes have processed food but only very occasionaly.A little bit extra won't do you any harm.My son never takes low salt ,he has never had salt in his food or much sugar so what you don't have you don't miss.To have a salt free diet is almost impossible as salt comes in most things, shop brought cakes, snacks ,ect.Bread is another source of salt.Tinned tomatoes has salt, tinned fruit ,so it is impossible to get away from the stuff.I don't get in a state about it ,I just cook without any.

I hardly ever added salt to food. The only exception was eggs. It wasn't until I began taking meds for my blood pressure that I developed a craving for it. See, people can have a deficiency in salt. However, rather than eating all that salt I bought kelp capsules. Kelp has so many of the minerals our bodies need, to include the salt. Most prepackaged foods have high amounts of sodium so you should be careful and read them. If you have to add salt, sea salt is better for you and can be bought at your regular grocer.

Hiya ronnyb,
Before I add any salt to the Food I always taste it first and then decide how much to add. I can live without a lot of salt black pepper and celery salt are good substitutes.
Also lots of variety of greens and herbs to a dish can reduce the need for salt.

Very good point made regarding those with diabetes and/or high blood pressure!
Personally, I am lucky to say that I have neither but I do not cook with salt nor do I salt my food.
I use many herbs to cook with and enjoy garlic and onions as well.
There are so many herbs at our disposal. If one would like to cut down on salt in their diet, simply try a herbal alternative.
Some awesomely flavorful herbs that can assist one in cutting back their salt intake, by applying during cooking as well once the meal is prepared are chives,
thyme, parsley, dill, fennel, rosemary, fennel, mint, tarragon, basil and oregano, celery seeds, cumin, coriander, black pepper corns ground in a pepper mill since fresh ground pepper provides much stronger flavor and more.
A nice combination to replace salt on the table is a mixture of basil, oregano and dried ground lemon zest. Experiment with measurements to suit yourself and mix well. Add a few grains of rice to prevent the mixture from clumping. Pour into a shaker and replace with the salt shaker. This is health alternative to put on your vegetables, in salads and to use during cooking where salt would otherwise be called for.
When it comes to spices, the sky is the limit. All one has to do is get a little creative and start experiencing to suit your individual taste.
Always use sparingly when using spices in cooking or with your meal as if one overdoes one particular spice, they may develop a strong dislike to an otherwise complimentary spice.
I prefer to choose a more healthy alternative but using spices in cooking and accenting salads and such than to use salt at all.
Sea Salt having been said is far better than table salt is a myth. Next time you are at the grocery store, take a look at the nutritional contents of both. I have seen Sea Salt with higher counts of sodium than regular table salt so beware! Educate yourself and have fun experimenting if you are wanting to cut down on your salt intake.

I guess u could get use to most anything if u had to but i hope i don't have to quit using salt. I have tried to cut back on my salt intake due to medical reasons. I think things would taste pretty bland w/out salt.

Hello there.
Well I do not think I can get used to eating food without salt.I simply will not be able to get it down my throat.Guess I will end up puking it.
As your friend said, even I have heard that we do get salt naturally from the food and hence do not need any extra salt in the food. But without the salt it won't be the same.
I just hope and pray that I never suffer from any such disease which will force me to have food without salt because I seriously don't think I will be able to do it.

no. i LOVE saltm i know it's not so good for health but i like it so much. every kind of food i eat, salted food, i like it with a lot of salt. i liek also soy souce because is so salted. When i eat chips i always put on them a lot of salt that every chip is covered by it. It's dangerous for health, heart, and for the pressure of the blood. but i'm only 20 so i don't care now.

I love food with salt too, although is bad for health but i will try reduced the quantity of salt. other than that, i would try to drink more water to flush off the excessive sodium chloride in my body. I prefer salt more than sugar, i dislike sugar and seldom take candy

I rarely add salt to anything. Not too long ago my husband brought home some onion rings for us to share, and he added salt to them. I hated them that way!!! Next time he brought home rings, he brought me my own order, so he could eat his with salt, and I could eat mine without.

I'm sure I can if I have to. As it is, there are some food that I already eat without salt. Things like seafood, especially shellfish like clams and cockles. These food taste best without any condiments added. To me, all food has taste naturally. Condiments are added to enhance the flavour of the dish. If salt becomes a must, then the person is not enjoying the natural flavour.

I could get used to it. At first it tasted funny but ai got so used to it that I forget at times to use it. If your meat for example is well seasoned with natural seasoning you wont miss it but with rice it is a bit more difficult but one can get used to it if youar placed ina position where you have to - hypertension.

Hi Ronny,
I already started eating foods without salt. i don't put salt on fries. instead i enjoy it with ketchup. no salt with sour fruits like green mango, santol and other fruits that i used to dip in salt then but not now. less use of salt can also make you healthy and can even trim you down. so it's healthy in a way! i can eat foods without salt!
Happy new year friend!
