now THAT most definitely deserves to become rat bedding..

i recycle a lot of things, however paper and cardboard get reused instead. they get turned into bedding for my pet rats. now most of the time this just involves tearing up cartons and papers in front of the telly without thinking about it at all. now and again though something goes in that provides a certain satisfaction when you consider its eventual fate (getting widdled on by rats i am afraid) - political pamphlets, a copy of the daily mail, a bill, the more irritatingly pretentious and smug pages from that weekends guardian. so in the unlikely event that i were to run out of paper what would you gleefully hand over? note anything printed on paper or made out of cardboard would be very welcome.

I really can't help you out there rabbit as all my old bits of paper get recycled into shopping lists. In the unlikely event that I would be left holding a copy of the daily mail of course you'd be most welcome to it.

Of course you can Sandra, I'm much fonder of you than rabbits rats. JB, there's a very interesting discussion alongside this concerned with rat litter.

Can I have the puzzle section out of the middle first, please? I want the sudokus and the cryptic crossword.

How about a Jeffrey Archer novel? I love reading, but I can't stand his stuff. And a copy of 'OK' magazine, or any of those other sycophantic celeb mags. I don't care what Peter Andre's front room looks, or who was at Lord and Lady Loaded's party last week.

You can't use Jeffrey Archer and novel in the same sentence Sandra, it doesn' make sense.

it is a classic oxymoron. almost as well known as 'military intelligence'. now while i do not approve of destroying books jeff's stuff can hardly be called books so i think this would definitely go in the cage. usually made of nice soft absorbent paper too

Catalogues for skinny Twiggies and medical information I can't understand or make sense out of. Many, many cardboard boxes from my grandson's transformers.

Should I ever have the misfortune to have someone get past the radar and bring some trashy "celeb gossip" magazine into my house, you could have that for the rats...though there is a good chance that I may 'widdle' (or worse) on it before I get as far as sending it! You can also have the annual newsletter sent out by 'friends' bewailing their dreadful year of broken fingernails, mild indigestion and being almost splashed by a passing raindrop

Sadly, my "fun" is likely to be so private that even I don't know about it!! I shall probably have another 10minutes to check the unlikely appearance of any responses and then I shall retire for the evening since I have to be at the outpatients department by 9.30am and then my New Years Eve will bring an even earlier bedtime because I need to be up at 5.30am. to work on January 1st. I did enjoy the 3 days off after Christmas tho Best wishes to you and yours for 2010

Rat bedding...sounds like my hair when I first get up in the morning. I'd gleefully hand you my bills to become rat bedding...and any and all junk mail.

I too re-use all of the paper and cardboard that comes into my house. We send products all over the country so we need a lot of packing materials. We shred all of the paper that comes into the house and sometimes have to go looking for more. It is with great delight that I shove the politicians smiling faces into the paper shredder and watch them come out in tiny pieces. Election times are great for packing materials.

I will be really glad when the Internet replaces and eliminates the need for newspapers and paper mail. Maybe, if paper was harder to get, fewer people would keep rats. Nah........They'd probably just keep them in their pockets or under their hats. When I was a child, and not too bright, I had a rat. It was about as smart as a .........Hmmmm...........large mouse? Of course, I'm only kidding. If anyone has a need for cardboard to use as rat bedding, I'd like to help. I think I have some old D-Con boxes in the basement.

you'd have to buy bedding (not sawdust) however i don't see the mountains of paper and card we all get disappearing anytime soon. i do not think pockets or hats are ideal places to keep pets though... especially considering that you can't erm housetrain most small rodents and thankyou for your cardboard contribution.
