This is a very common crime that is done by teenaged people...Why do they commit this thing, knowing that it is a crime and they may caught red handed because of close circuit cameras??? People commiting this are also from good families.
Is stealing things is some sort of addiction??I was just wondering...
Please share your opinions in this regard..
Happy Mylotting.

I have never shoplifted before. There are many different reasons why people commit such a crime. It could be because of peer pressure, or they think it's cool to steal things and not get caught, or they want things that they can't have, or they want to know what it feels like to steal, or they just steal it because they need it but they can't afford to pay for it. People that commit this crime usually do not think before they act. If they are raised and taught properly, it's unlikely they will steal.

There are kleptomaniacs; they have a phychological 'disease'. These people will steal anything from anywhere to get a thrill from it; and they don't even use the stuff. You could allmost call it an addiction, only these people haven't got addicted by just doing it once and then they couldn't stop. Perhaps it's something neurological aswell, I am not certain on that topic.
Why teenagers do it? Teenagers are thrill seekers. Their frontal lobe of their brain isn't fully grown yet which makes it harder for teenagers to see the long term outturn of things. If shoplifting sounds exciting and thrilling, they wouldn't think ahead about possibly getting a criminal record or having to spend a night in jail; let alone about long term things like not being able to work in a shop later on if they keep on doing the shoplifting.
Doing the exact opposite of what they are supposed to do is what teenagers like most and do best .

I think a lot of people do it for the thrill of it, the thrill of getting caught that is. Don't ask me what kind of logic THAT is . Although I have to admit I used to be.. quite the shoplifter, when I was 12 that is. Finally I ended up getting caught. I think mainly I was bored, and neglected by my parents..Ha, but that certainly got their attention, all right! There is a certain adrenaline rush with breaking the law, just like with being chased, gambling, drinking, and so on..So I can understand how people can be addicted.

Shoplifting based on study is considered as form of habit in addiction and a disorder syndrome for some persons who cannot treat this disorder.
Psychologically, the person who shop lift under good financial life state. Get a feeling of satisfaction when they shop lift than buying the said item. This was considered as an illness syndrome.
Some do shoplift because of poverty and they have no money to spend. They make it a habit to get easily what they want in no cost. They do if for living.
some do shop lift brought about by peers game dare. It is a matter more on ego perception.
I guess in any form it arrive from all I shared, it is almost an addiction and cannot be stopped unless treated properly with a good solution.
Great day ahead~!

I remember when i was pre teen. My sister and i done that. We had money. We would walk the eight or so blockes to the downtown area of our town, Go to the store that sold single vinal records (45's). We bought what we could afford with our money and take a few extras in our bags. My older sister was my leader. We knew it was wrong to steal. We could have asked for more money or waited till our next allowance. They didnt have a bunch of security cameras then.
There were times after i was adult that i had to steal to eat sometime. Or if my child needed something. I remember once being sick and not affording the over the counter meds i needed. So i went into the store open the bottle and gulped it down.
So i imagine there are many reasons for stealing.

I have actually read that it is an addiction. A person that steals as a habit is called a cleptomaniac. You should research it. It's an interesting mental disorder. It can also be spelled with a K.

I have heard that it is an addiction. It's awful, though, isn't it? Like you said, it looks like thy would know that they will get caught because of the cameras, mirrors, etc. I ran a bookstore for two years back in the '80s and while I know it's a real problem, I never had to deal with it and I'm thankful for that. We (my employees and I) just had to keep a close watch on everybody. I think tenagers do it for kicks and they sometimes do it as a dare. Kathy.

Some people have psychological problems that they can't help. Or maybe they're just simply bored and looking for new thrills in their lives. One of my friends shoplift almost every time she goes to the mall, and she has told that it is thrilling and sort of fun. She comes from a pretty wealthy family too...

Hai tuyakiki,
you can say that is addiction, you can see many celebrities caught while shop lifting that is not due to the insufficient of money or something like that but that is a king of fun or habit which is developed in many people, though those kind of people have money the prefer shop lifting and that is a kind of fun in the teenagers.
