I like dogs when they look nice and cutie.I hte dogs when they will bark on you and even try to bite you.I never have a dog but I did take care of one of my friends dog for afew walks nad i like the experience.I used to take a chow chow out on the street and it was a black chow chow.So nobody could see her on the street since it was so dark. But she was just so quiet and looks so friendly and I just like this dog.It made me think that how can I communicate with dogs?I think many dog owner on mylot can give me some tips on this issue.See what you've got this time?

I have been a pet lover ever since i was a child and dogs are my favorites. From experience, communication would be eye to eye contact, constant reassurance by merely gently tapping the dog's head or massaging the neck below the mouth and saying "Good boy!" [or girl], and more importantly talking to them as if they were your children or siblings. Praise if they are good, shout with authority when they are bad. It is more of being a real friend; providing care and understanding. Do these constantly and patiently and it would communicate back to you and you would then realize as to why they are man's best friend.

Thank you and your response is practical and I will definately keep that in mind when I have a dog.I agree with you that if we can treat dogs like our good friend, relationship will be build up.And just like a friendship,it is not going to be a one day or two matter. It really takes time to develope and I think skils and experience of animal communication are also important. It is always good to learn and share experience with others and that's the benefit of mylot.Happy new year, my friend.

Oh,happy new year sweetbali.Yes,when the dogs were still puppy ,they are so cutie. But I think they are still a good buddy whn they grow up.Although I didn't have a dog,and only have the "chow chow" experience(In fact I had 2 chow chow experience, and the second one is true a personality type with special character)by helping some friends to take care of their dogs:it was still a great experience to learn how to care and love animal. But I still think that it is fun to play with them once awhile, but to spend time with them will be too time consuming. And of course the caring process is not easy at all.So it good to have fun with someone else's dogs^_^.

I think that if you talk to your dog on a regular basis they will come to understand you. I don't think that dogs actually understand human language, but I think that they come to understand parts of our language because of hearing the same thing repeatedly. For example, both of our dogs answer to their names. They also come when we mention food or going outside, so I know that they understand these things even though they may not hear it the same way as we do. Based on these things alone, I think that our dogs will understand more and more of what we are saying to them.

Since we cant really communicate with dogs naturally, the only thing I know of is by using "rewards". If you want to teach a dog, just make him do like a trick and reward him immediately with something (usually food) to send him the message that he did what you wanted and what he should do. If you keep on doing that, the dog will be conditioned to only do things that will reward him later on. If you dont give him something in return, that will mean to him that he's not doing right thing so he shouldnt repeat it. Good luck and enjoy! :D

Hi Wildlittlefan Happy New Year. I don't have dog as pet but my friend have got two. I don't hate dogs but I am a little scared when they get ferocious looking at you and their eyes look dangerous. My friend have a german shepherd and a doberman and know more about them. If you really want to communicate with any dog, make them your pet when they are small and they will do anything you want. As the saying goes "Dog is man's best friend". They are faithful and save you from danger. Keep MyLotting

some dogs are tame, some dogs are savage, different pet has different feature. Some pets are full of emotion, If the master has a lot of patient, he can make it become a good dog.

I have two miniature poodles and they are really intelligent. They understand human words like 'sit', 'garden', 'walk' and 'mat'. I like to stroke them often and give them a cuddle sometimes. Those actions show I love my dogs and think they are really special. Dogs bark and there are reasons like the postman puts letters through the door.

First you should caress the dog's neck usually to tell him you love him.And then you can give him some toys and play with him.Just get along with him well like your friend.Good luck for you.And happy new year.

I have never heard of a breed called "chow chow", can u please posts picture of it? Regarding communication with dogs, you have to train them really hard.

I would say one factor is one's tone of voice, predominately friendly. If it is mainly kind and friendly then the dog might understand better when it is not, and hopefully obey you sooner. Learning how a dog communicates with us will help us communicate with a dog. If Velvet is in the same room with me and she has to go out I can just about tell, even before she taps my hand with her nose. Another thing to consider is the age of the dog, then factor in how you might feel at that age.

Hi, Communicating to dogs is very easy. They are intelligent animals. From their very childhood they get to understand our words which we use daily in our home. They do understand our orders and our care. They are infact like small kids.

i love dogs more than any other pets. truly 'a man's best friend'.. how will you communicate? for me it's like a reward-and-punishment type of relationship at first. if he'll do what you want him to do, he'll have the bone. if he doesn't, make him try a bit harder for him to eat. and as time passes by, it'll be just like you'll treat him as your best friend when your at home. :)

There is really no way you can "learn" to communicate with dogs. They are far too smart to know when someone is trying, or when someone is natural. The best thing you can do is just be around them more until you naturally become more comfortable with them. Just be yourself - if you really want to be better around dogs, then it will happen. :-)
