I love my blackberry.. but I don't use it just for text and I imagine that the people that you see typing on theirs isn't always sending texts.. I use mine to respond to email and play on facebook and a million other things. I do my fair share of texting but mostly I'm doing other things.
All cellphones have the capabilities to text.. not just the blackberry
Why do I text on my blackberry?
it's portable and it beats trying to drag a computer with you.. you are always connected to the internet and it's just plain entertaining! :)

I think that people get Blackberries for the purpose of texting/emailing. But not just Blackberries. They get the phones with the full QWERTY keyboards because they text and email more than they talk. My mom has a BB for work and sometimes she has me send emails while we are in the car and I HATE IT! I'd never get one for myself. The keys are soooooooooooo tiny and the roller ball thingy that serves as a selection key drives me nuts. It's the same as the roller mouse on my laptop keyboard and I hate that thing too.

LOL! People who purposely get keyboard phones with internet utility certainly do get them for the purpose of text/email/browsing. We do so much more with phones these days than we did when they were a new thing. Think about tv - used to be a dial and network only, like maybe 10 channels, and black and white. Now we have recordable pausable playable in any room and probably downloadable to your blackberry to stream thru a headset while you're bored waiting in line to pay the bill at your utility company....

I have blackberry 9700 & interestingly enough, I don't text a lot on it. I do get a lot of incoming emails & text messages but I don't send them too much. I do have blackberry for work purpose. There are times I spend better part of the day sending out emails but on average over-all, I call more than I text, or even emails.

They're not necessarily texting. BlackBerries were invented as mobile e-mail devices, not texting devices. You can text on them, but everyone I know who has a BlackBerry uses it to send e-mail far more than they use it to text.
But yeah, you're basically right--you buy this thing so you can send messages all the time.

Well, I don't think its just the Blackberry. I have seen people with other cell phones just texting their friends or family. Where I am from the cell phone companies are competing with each other. So now they don't charge for texting someone. I think people text because its cheaper than calling the person.

Well I think its the fact that blackbery was the first smart phone to not only have a full qwerty keyboard, but its the first smart phone designed for high-end use. Since texting is the most common feature out there, then it would be the most widly used.
I don't have a blackbery nor do I want one in the future. I'm perfectly content just the way I am. I do want another smart phone though, but that'll have to wait until I get my hands on some money.

I don't have a blackberry, I have a sidekick. I am considering upgrading to something else, but I want something similar to a sidekick, meaning a slideout full qwerty keyboard which is covered when you're not using it. I don't purposely lock my phone and I dislike having the keys right there to randomly call out or text people.
Blackberrys ARE easy to use - at least that's what I hear. Any text-friendly phone could be responsible for hundreds or thousands of texts per month lol.

I use texting via cricket phone. Most phones have that ability now. I ususlly text because i live ina basement apt. Cell phone is the only one i have. Cell phones and basements dont work good together. Wireless internet doesnt work well down here either. If somnebody calls sometimes my phone dont even ring. I just hear the signal that a message is there. Texting doesnt always come right away either. But eventually it comes and i get every word. So for me right now while im living here it will be texting and IM. If i need to make a call i have to go into the kitchen or outside. For some reason it works better in the kitchen.

I don't have a Blackberry now, but I did at one time. I had the Blackberry Curve, but I never texted with it. I now have an LGenVTouch and it has a touchscreen and a qwerty keyboard, which does make it much easier text with it that is for sure. My son has a Blackberry Storm, the first one, but he uses his for his business, where he checks his email and has a website as well. He doesn't text with it, as he doesn't know the first thing about texting. I think the next phone I get will be the Samsung Omnia as it is like a mini computer. The one I have now, I can't do online with it what I could be able to do with the SAmsung Omnia. Take care, happy mylotting, and Happy New Year.

i have a blackberry bold 9700. it really help me to communicate with my girlfriend who stay at different city. we can communicate easily without concern about the phone bill. in my country, we only have to pay a small amount of money everyday. then we can use the BIS for the rest of the day as long as we like. it's really convenience to have a blackberry.
