getting older...

Another year has started. And while kids are hoping to get old soon, we, in the thirties and above, are hoping to get younger, in terms of physical appearance, vitality, energy, and health. I am not yet in my thirties but I will be on July. And that will be soon. I feel old already. I don't look old but it seems that when I look at my parents, in their sixties already, I feel that time has passed me by so quickly. I feel tired of this routine, which is life, actually. I see life as a routine. It just come in different faces and phases. We are born, we grow, we play, we work, we feel all kinds of emotions, we enjoy things we like, we love, we care, we put our minds to think, we experience life in its boredom and excitement, we get old, we get sick, and we die. -An excerpt from my personal writing. To be posted in its entirety in my blog. What do you think? Do you feel like getting older? I don't want to upset anyone but that's reality.

yes, life indeed is a routine and the trick is to find out happiness and excitement within all these mundane existence. I’m in my late 30’s and I don’t really mind getting old. Thinking too much about the most natural process, makes my mind preoccupied with something over which I have little control while missing the joys and experiences of life itself. I do have my usual hair dyes and creams and lotions but that’s all there is to it. I’d rather concentrate of how to live better, how to make my child into a better adult and to enjoy this moment.

My son is only 10yrs old and right now I'm his best friend...I know that in a few years time, he wont even have time to look back and say goodbye so as I said, enjoy THIS moment and have happy memories...to me they are the best savings of life.

I'm merely 19 as of this last December. That being said, I notice the pace at whcih time passes. We become so encompassed by our video games and occupations and romances that we lose track of every thing. We fill every second of our llife with work or play and gobble up sleep as if it were going out of style. On a side note I never understood that expression. Don't people usually want less of what's going out of style? But I digress. The point is I think the best way to enjoy life is to step to the side every now and then and just observe everything around you. Life is short, yes, but it's worth remembering.

Observe life? Doesn't it make you less of a participator if you only observe life as it passes by? Would you be guilt-stricken if in an event in your life you are dying to say or do something but you chose to just observe it? I think we must go on living just the rest of humankind. However small your voice maybe, you should get out in the open and say something, do something, and act. That will make your life even worth remembering.

I'm excited to get older. I feel like 19 is a crummy age if you ask me. It's like stuck being a teenager, but yet expected to be an adult. 19 was and continues to be a bad age for me. I don't know. I look forward to the future. You might consider trying to have a more positive viewpoint on life? Thirty is certainly not old, and you have so much more of your life ahead of you to complain about age. Enjoy your youth while it lasts! It does go by fast, and that's why we need to try to enjoy every minute of it and try to live in the moment!

You're just saying that because you are still very young maezee. I am not a pessimist. It is just the reality and no one will escape from the fact that time, no matter how intangible it is, is one of the equalizers in life. Sure I enjoy life. I am most grateful for my life. But don't forget irony. Happy new year!

I agree with you, I feel like I am growing older too fast, wish the days could slow down so I could figure myself out more. There's too much to do, too much to plan and I don't know where to start but one thing I know is that with God all things are possible.

Everything, God have done, is good. Man made it so complicated and now we are on this verge of no return.

Hello, Ethanonthemoon. I'm in my early 40's and I don't feel old. But the fact is certainly there. That I am not getting any younger. I am starting to have white hair, and I don't really mind. They say it's a sign of wisdom. And hopefully, I have really grown in wisdom in my 40 years on this planet... What i agree on most, though, is what you said about life being a routine. I'm starting to get tired of it too. The everyday struggles that are always there, and doesn't seem to diminish. When I was younger, I had a lot of ambitions and aspirations. And it is so disappointing now, that through all the pain, and hardships, and trials, I still haven't reached my goal. Sometimes I want to think that life is futile. Although it's a wonderful world, but with all the frustrations, discouragement, and dissatisfaction, how, can I possibly go on? I don't want to leave this world without any accomplishments. I don't want to leave without making sure that I have prepared enough for my children's future. Someday, they will be the ones preparing for their children's future. It's the cycle of life. But it's like an illusion.

Yes, it is a cycle but an illusion...? How come it is an illusion when you see it happen right in front of you? And we know pretty well that it really happens. You said it perfectly well. Everything you said are real. The next perfect question is why? Why, these things you mentioned, happens day in and day out? Why are we in a routine? Are we doomed to be in this state for the rest of our lives? For everybody's life, for that matter?

I said it's like an illusion because, for instance, I have a fantastic plan for my life, or a desire, then only to find out that my plan or desire causes an erroneous belief or perception, and no matter how hard I try, I fail. So isn't life vain? The rich remain and become richer, while the poor remain and become poorer. We all go through the cycle of life with no assurances. So for me it's just an illusion... Only hoping for the best. And they say, the best is yet to come. Hopefully...

If time stops today, what would it be like? Its the end of the world as we know it then, I guess. No more tomorrows. No more future. It is a lame wish. It is much nicer to wish for a better future than to wish for time to stop, don't you think so?

I'm only 24 and I feel old in age already, only because I had two younger siblings and my step father was drunk all the time and mom I could never really talk to so I kinda had to watch out for my brother and sister, I had to grow up fast to deal with things that life dealt me, and I guess that is just the way things are and always will be to the human race, we age faster now days because of what we eat, drink and of the stress in every day lives with school, work, kids and every other little thing such as taking care of bills, it's a demanding life for anyone I'm sure, then again getting older is a physical thing yet a mental thing, if you want to be say 25 when your 40 go for it, whatever keeps you going and on your toes without breaking the law.

This is the irony of life. While other have the luxuries and all the comforts of life, other, like you and most people in the world are just getting by. But that's just the way it is. We can't fight it out. We just have to live with it.

hi ethan, happy new year. we had a discussion about this getting old thing at home with my younger sisters. yes, we all feel we're getting old but only on the physical aspect but not what we feel and how we think. everything...all the memories are just so fresh since we were kids until now it's just there and can easily be recovered. but, there are some activities that we can say not so good for us anymore as we aged. mom was so energetic traveling and bringing all the stuff--fruits, vegetables, rice, everything that she can for us her children living in manila from the province. now, we missed her so much. she's not into travelling. we need to go to the province to give her a visit from time to time. we need to give extra care of our health being our wealth. we are here to care for each other and give support to one another anytime.

Every age group has its excitement and so I would rather that you look foward to it and one reason why you would get wrinkles fast would be because you frown on getting old. More the frowns more wrinkles will appear. So keep smiling and look forward to your years and plan something exciting to do right away.

I don't frown on the thought of getting old. Don't be mistaken that I am sad on that fact of getting old. It is just a nostalgic feeling. How old are you allknowing?

I would rather have time slow down as much as possible. Everything just seems like it goes at such a breakneck pace for me. Getting older quicker is something that I dread just a little bit. Not towards a full blown panic but still its a concern. With that in mind, that's a reason why its good to enjoy life as it happens and cherish every moment.

Hello and happy new year to you ethanonthemoon. Well, you are correct. It's another year for all of us and together with that, our age also increases. We really cannot deny the fact that we all grow old. I am still in my 20's and I believe I am still young. But, even if that's the case I am still aware that sooner or later, I will reach thirties and will get old. It might appear to be scary thinking about this but this is the truth and we must live with it. We all just have to enjoy everyday of our lives so that we won't have any regrets when we are already very old. I can still remember those times when I was still very dependent with my family. And now, at my age, I think I am already capable of having my own family. I have mixed feelings regarding that matter. I am excited since I really want to build a family of my own, with a loving husband and wonderful kids. On the other hand, I am a bit scared that I may not be able to take all the responsibilities and I am also afraid of getting old.

Those are the things we have to get by. Change is one thing constant in life. We have to move on one step at a time. If you fumbled on a step, that's a learning experience so the next time you encountered that step again you'll know what to do.

I turned 33 years old this year and I asked myself What have I did with my life and why am I not where I thought I would be. Now I feel that I am in overdrive to accomplish so many things. I am working on one thing at a time checking it off my list. I wish time would stay still for a few months so I could catch up. I don't want another birthday, EVER!!!!!

That's a nice thing to say jennmeyers, "working on one thing at a time". That's what I'm doing right now. Checking, and rechecking, and still triple checking on things that might slip away from me. Happy new year to you jennmeyers!

I see you are a happy-go-lucky guy. A "lets-party-tonight-and-worry-the-things-we-have-to-worry-about-later" guy. Do you have a family right now? Just asking dude. Everyone has their opinions in life. I respect that.

If you really look life that way, I'm sure you will be disappointed. I'm much older than you, but for me I find life so interesting. I always look forward for tomorrow because everyday for me is a challenge. I consider challenge as my spice of life. God created us for a purpose. I also met problems and disappointments but I always seek the help of God. Yes I agree with you that life is a routine but it is up to you how you will handle your life. I'm sure your parents at their age, are happy because they were able to raise you.
