This happened to me yesterday when I went to the passport office for a certificate. I waited in the queue for almost 2 hours to meet the concerned person. It was very irritating to just stand for such a long time. I forgot to take my earphones; otherwise I would have listened to music.
What can be done when you are forced to wait in a queue for long time?

I hate waiting too.especially if it is the last day and we have to stand behind a long queue.....So,without any other go,we have to bear it.As you have not taken your ear phones, you could have tried playing games in your cell phone.Otherwise, you can chat with the person behind or front of you about anything for a time pass. For me,I have my gprs connection in my cell phone and so I will spend some time surfing the net with it.

GPRS connection will really help to fill in these boring times. I haven't had my phone with me since I left my phone in the bag with my husband. It was too boring for him to just wait for me to complete the task. I did exactly what you said. I had a nice chat with the boy stood infront of me and the women who stood behind me. Lol.
The boy infront of me lives in the same area as mine has plans to go to Newzealand. He likes to join to a garaphic design diploma course for two years. The total course will cost around 19 lakhs. He got the chance through Chopra cousultants in Chennai. The woman who stood behind me plans to go to Saudi where her husband works. I gathered a lot of information. Right?

Wonderful! You have done a nice job.i think you can qualify for a journalist or even an informer.Chat with strangers can be fun sometimes and informative also. Our aim is to kill the time and the gain is not a matter of fact.by the way,do you reveal any of your personal details or carefully avoided it?

That is an intersting question. I had no intention to hide my personal details. But, both of the people stood in front and behind me were not intersted in my personal matters. At the same time, I didn't want to tell my personal details to them. Also, I took the opportunity to chat with them to compare my form with them and see if I have committed any mistakes. I was pretty nervous about getting the certificate.

Hi dalia,
Happy New Year to you dear.
It seems you are going to join with your best half soon because you are busy for making passport/ necessary documents. Great to know dear, hope you can join him soon.
You are right; it is really annoying to wait in a queue for hours. I have not waited for a queue recently for official purpose. I can remember about the queue for when visiting temple here (South Indian) on special occasions. There must be long queue and waiting in queue with kids is really a problem but no other option left there.

Happy new year wishes to you and family too. Yes, my visa process is nearing the final stage and I am very happy about it. It is very difficult to stand in a queue for a long time with kids. There was a family in the same queue with kids. I saw that the husband and wife had a tough time managing the kid and keep waiting to meet the clerk. Anyway, I am happy that I finally got the document I required without much pain.

I hate waiting too especially for long hours I can't stand it! If I know I am going to have to be waiting for a long time I will bring a croosword puzzle book with me it helps to pass the boring time waiting. Maybe you could bring one along with you next time.

Thanks for sharing with us your answer. Hope you are having a nice day. Happy New Year 2010 and keep Mylotting. Take Care.

Well, it is no different to us here in the Philippines. You also have to wait for hours just to be attended by the person you are looking for. I guess, you can bring with you a reading material, a book or even a newspaper. Waiting really takes a lot of patience. You need to get yourself focus on something else other than waiting. And reading a good try.

Hi daliaj,
Happy New Year!
There is usually a book in my bag, so when I wait I sometimes read my book. Moroever, I have my cellphone with me always, I can listen to the radio or the music that I recorded earlier. I like watching people, too. I like to see their outfit, their shoes and hair style. I like to listen to people's chatting. I am the one who like sociolinguistics and fashion. As a result, I am not easily feel boring when waiting in a queue.
Have a nice day!

2 hours of waiting is too boring. I can't even wait for a minute or so. Whenever I am in queue, I always look out for other lanes that are shorter, this shows that the officers are very fast in processing the documents in that lane. Therefore, I will cross over to that lane and get my documents processed. If there is only this lane available, I will call my friend to chit chat a bit because I like to fill my time with things to do. I am a person who do not like to waste time doing nothing.

i try to converse with people in front of me or at the back. this way we wont notice how long we've been waiting. i try to initiate conversation and when everything is started, a topic after another will follow. the next thing we'll know is that we've just reached our turn.

Hi daliaj, well the problem isn't an issue in Greece in the places where one is likely to be hanging around ages, as we have the ticket system. Upon entering the health dept, or a bank, or the tax office, one simply takes a ticket. Then you can calculate how many people are in front of you and either wait there or go off somewhere else and come back later. At one busy bank I invariably take my ticket and then cross the road to my favourite coffee place, sometimes I miss my turn, other times my turn is close. 20 people may sound like a lot of people in front of one in the queue, but if they've all gone off for coffee they all lose their place and your turn can come up really quickly. I remember on one very very busy day there were over 300 ticket numbers before mine and I went off and did everything i needed to do in town, called back on the offchance after 3 hours, and my turn was next.

Hi daliaj: It's almost impossible to not feel bored when you have to wait for hours but at least what I love to do inthose cases is to watch the building and the persons that work there. I know this sounds a little bit irritating but it actually works for me, I feel more comfortable when i wait in these conditions and i try not think about the time I'll be waiting. Thanks for your answer. Hope you are having a nice day. Happy New Year 2010 and keep Mylotting. Take Care.

It reminds me of something i really hated in my college days when i had to pay the exam fee---they used to ask us to take an demand draft and then pin it with the application form. Its quiet normal for humans(especially students) to keep on postponing right and on that last day it would take some hours-atleast 4 hours to take a draft and it would be like hell.I used to be with my friends so we used a funny chat about the surroundings or the people around who wear something unusual. If i were alone then i would start a funny conversation with the one standing infront of me and praise(who wouldnt like these) him like anything as i'm doing this for fun so no one would be offended either and there were times when they followed me asking for my number .i can pass my time happily rather then looking at others moody faces.great day.

I find impossible to keep myself entertained in a long queue. The last time I had to wait in a line for 3 hours the battery of my ipod run out, so I just kept staring at the beginning on the line with an angry face

Hi,
The best way to entertain ourselves under such circumstances it to listen to music, else call up your close friend and chat, message your friends, make friendship with people next to you in the queue.
Thanks

Hi daliaj, Wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year 2010. Hope it brings lot of luck to you. Well, I can guess how irritating it is to stand in any queue for long time. As you say if I have my earphones I listen to music or just look around what people keep doing, sometimes I start some conversation with the person standing next to me.

Hi Daliaj,
I usually listen to my iPod if I understand that it would take longer for me to be entertained. I listen to music from the iPod. If not, I will just tinker with my cellphone. I usually delete messages in my inbox/sent files.
When I am inside a bank and the line is long, I read newspapers provided for the customers.

When that happens it is best to resort to hapy memories. Go over in your mind for example the fantastic holidays you have had, or a party at your place or any other happy event that when brought back to ponder over you get joy. That is what I do.

When I'm in line, since I can't really do much, I just think about random things. I like to think about the things that I have to do and kind of set up a to-do list for when I get back home. I also like to think of random ideas that I could use for designing some things that I'm planning on selling online. My thoughts vary. I think about pretty much everything because I get so bored waiting in line that there really is nothing else to do. Sometimes I think about topics for my MyLot discussions. I write down all the ideas that I get on my phone. Usually time passes by faster that way when I get really into thinking about things.

This sounds funny and ironical but I really want to gaze on people and appreciate girls' beauty. It happens everytime I wait for my girlfrien. My point is it doesn't harm anyone by just looking at them for awhile right? and it still not cheating. It is just a form of self entertainment when waiting especially for hours right? I promise you, it is really fun :D

Hi daliaj,
If no magazines or newspapers are around to read maybe chat with some other person that also has to wait.
I try to have something along that I can do, like read my New Testament. There are times that I might have a list of verses that I am memorizing.
