They told me it was because I bought a one-way ticket that day and had only carry on luggage! Yet this last week a man did the same thing and he got on the plane with a bomb! I was on the way to see about my son who had been in a tragic wreck. This man wanted to blow up the plane and they didn't even stop him! Besides those clues... he was on the terrorist lists! And they let him get straight on board with his one way ticket and carry on bag! I guess that's life!

I didn't know he was on the terrorist list. Someone wasn't doing their job. How scary is that.

Yeah, it's very scarey!! How did something like that just slip through? And how did he get through security with any kind of explosives? It is cool though that the people took him down!!

Yes thank goodness someone became aware and did something about it. Whenever I'm flying I am always looking around and checking people out for anything that might not look right. Thanks for responding.

You weren't paying attention love....
if you really wanted to get on that plane, then you were supposed to carry a bomb!
Next time...frisk the guards!

History just repeats itself. The safest time is always after a wake-up call when everyone is on the alert, but after a very short while, everything gets back to its normal routine until another new cycle awakens everyone.
Human vigilance decline over time. Studies show that human attention decline by 10% after 30 minutes and gradually decline over time. To be under constant alert is a mentally stressful task that further reduces detection efficiency.
It only takes one human error to let a bomb slip by and few humans perform 100% and not even for a long time.
In some countries, people are frisked not only in airports but also in ports, malls, stadiums, school campuses, hotels, parking lots, bus and train stations, besides road check-points everywhere, but bombs still get its way in.
Humans err, and err more over time.

I think that because there are some terrorists in the world airport security have to be careful. Of course they frisk and search the baggage of innocent travelers all the time. It is awful to think a man managed to get through airport security and he was carrying a bomb.
When my mom and I went to St Lucia we had a baggage search. The man said it was one in so many in the queue for check in. That was fine and not all all bothersome. I had a very different experience when I went to the airport in Israel. I was nervous when I answered questions in the line of travelers. They took me off to a room and did a very detailed baggage search. It took ages and they looked in extremely fine detail. Of course they let me go when they finally realized I am an innocent traveler.
I might fly from London to Beijing one way and then come home by train. There is always a reason for taking a one way flight. I hope that you son has made a full recovery. I will be flying from London to Vancouver later this week. I am glad it is a return ticket and so will the Canadian passport control.

macdingolinger,
Since 911, the security game has taken to another dimension and height. Heightening security measures has never ceased since that day as terror cells are ever coming up with more ideas to beat and penetrate the system to achieve their damaging ends.
As such, airport securities are having an increased list of profiles to spot a potential threat and since you were found fitting their profile description, they just have to follow procedures.
However, they can make mistakes too like us, as they are after all human. It is just evident in the case of the other case which you have mentioned. It is just life. This incident just had me recall how a group of pedestrians were jay walking on a monitored busy street. All of them crossed and only a specific few within the arms of the law were caught, reprimanded and issued with a summon, whilst the other few just escaped without an incident. So, as you can see systems are still not up to fool-proofed standards yet and likewise that man had just managed to escape the close attention and scrutiny of the airport security.
Just your luck here.
