for the person who asked how do you?? your voice and body language very important and tone- when i encourage my dog i use a certain tone of voice for support esp since he is blind now he has to know he can trust you to guide him- when thye do something that is not proper you can change your tone but be firm not mean.they offer many courses on this and collins blog is great for pet owners.collins@wmeblogs.com fantastic folks that help with questions like this etc
hope this helps.

This is very interesting icepalace. May i ask why your dog is blind? Is it secondary to old age? Anyway back to the subject. I think it would take time for your dog to know what you mean, right?
But it is good that you shared us some tips, and this website i believe would be helpful for dog owners.
Happy new year.

he lost his sight shortly after his rabies shot a yr ago but the other vet told us he felt the heat here in az did this possibly he is not an outside dog and an american eskimoo but here they tell people wear sunglasses the rays are so damaging! uv! hes only about 6-7 yes!!! it doesnt happen over nite constant reinforcement work -too many people think its a "one time" command no!! pet owners have to work at it like raising children but many seem not to think so!!! consistent is what a dog likes and or child!!! mixed messages confuses them- stick with basic also simple not wordy stuff that confuses them!

thank you for responding also hope this helps and website i send in my questions and they are so wonderful-another possibility the vet mentioned as we grow older certain meds that didnt affect us then might now everything changes and we feel the heat theory is the answer! we are taking him to an eye doggie specialist.to get another opinion!

Hi Ice Palace, how old is your dog that is blind? Have you had any other animals with disabilities? He knows your house or does another dog help him? I've heard that sometimes when a dog goes blind, another dog will help that dog.
