Why are religious people so judgmental?

Now, I'm not trying to generalize or anything, but it has been my observation that religious people tend to be the most judgmental people out there. Why is that? And it's Christians, too! Isn't one of the Ten Commandments something like "Judge not lest ye be judged"? So what makes them think they have the right to judge anyone? Because they're "Christians" and they think they're better than everyone else or what? Help me out if you can, please!

My husband and I were wondering about this too, and we were talking about it today. I think that they feel that what they are doing is not judging, because they think they are right, and they think they are being nice abut it. I don't agree with that rationalization though. Even if their intentions are good, it's still judgement.

Exactly. I agree. I also think they probably think they are SO right and I also think they feel they're better than everyone else and have the right to judge. NOBODY has the right to judge another.

Hi Poison Girl..=)
it's interesting topic although i'm not a Christian..I'll talk about religious people in general. I really think it depends on each person. There are some very religious people but not judgemental out there, but also not really religious peopel but judgemental.
But if we talk bout the religious judgemental one, i think it's because they think they're always the right one. And what they're doing and following in their life are the right one than what other's faith. I'm one of the religious person, but i realize i'm not that good yet, my knowldege about my own religion you can say very less than my other friends. But i do believe in my God, and that i follow the most right religion at the whole universe. Sounds overreacting huh ? lol but yes, i do believe in it..
Still, that doesn't make me can judge people for their belief or what they do. Even i do wrong too, i make lots of sins in my life, my whole life i can assure u that.
One thing i can be sure of, those kind of people you said there just should really think that, they can not force others to follow what they think they're right, and try to respect..that's all..

I agree that there religious people who aren't judgmental as well as judgmental people who aren't religious. That's why I started off by saying that I wasn't trying to generalize and why I didn't say that ALL religious people are judgmental. They probably do think that what they're doing and following is right, but that's THEIR opinion and belief. And that of their church's. I grew up in a religion and eventually felt I was brainwashed and was never thinking for myself, so I tried to get away from it. Man, was it freeing! But that's another story... What you said doesn't like an overreaction. I hope you don't mind that it I feel it just sounds a little cliche. I'm sorry, but I'm just being honest. You sound like a good person and I wish more people were more like you.
