Did you ever have your Credit Card breached?

Very recently I had this scary experience. I had a call in the middle of the night from my Credit Card Company asking me whether I had just then made a purchase from an Advertising Company in USA? Since I was thousands of miles away from the USA I couldn't understand, and I told the person that I had not even made any purchase online. The caller then said that someone had made a purchase from ...... company using my credit card, hence the query. Luckily for me they were vigilant enough to spot the transaction and they cancelled my Credit Card immediately. Being Christmas week it was a bit tough, but them it couldn't be helped. I have since received my new card. But now I'm really cautious about using it. Have any of you had that experience or had to pay for purchases you hadn't made?

Hi roger: You are lucky. But its always best to check your statements to make sure no unauthorized payments have been credited to your account. thanks for the response and Happy New Year.

I did once receive my credit card statement and there was a charge that I knew I had not made. I called the credit card company and told them I hadn't made that particular order. Ironically, the charge was for a company who sold identity theft protection! But the credit card company took it off my card, and gave me a new one.

Hi Ambie Pam Happy New Year to you. Its good that they took the charge of your statement. The reliable Credit companies do that but there are some who make you pay. We have to be extremely vigilant to ensure that we do not get landed with purchases made by fraudsters. thanks for your response.

that happens here all the time for those with huge credit line. he he luckily my card has never been(and hopefully never breached) as i wouldn't have the time and effort to actually go through all the processes of charging it back to the bank.

Hi chiyosan: I wonder how they do it. I mean one can understand it happening if you lose your card. But how does it happen when the credit card is safely in your wallet and you are thousands of miles aways from the place the purchase took place. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks for your response chiyosan and Happy 2010.

I've had it happen to me before. I got the money back though. Someone had stolen my card and gone on a huge shopping spree. I didn't notice this for days until I tried to pay for my pizza. Since I memorized my card number I manually typed it in (this was when I was still working) and it was declined. I was like.... that shouldn't be... and was on the phone with the bank seconds after it declined to find out why. that's when I saw or rather heard the long transaction list.

Thanks for your response kaylachan: It must have been scary to fine that someone had stolen your card and used on a massive spending spree. You are indeed lucky to have got your money back. Did the Credit Card Company accept your reasoning? Sometimes they don't and you are left with having to pay a huge amount. Good luck to you in 2010.

Hi jpertin: I too have been using my credit cards (3) for a long time and this is the first time it happened. I was lucky that I didn't have to pay for purchases or services not done by me due to the vigilance of the Card company. I do some online transactions but always through paypal. Wonder how this happened. Thanks for your response and Happy New Year jpertin
