According to me, it was not politics, and it is not ganguly's poor form also. It was something that most of the Indians felt a few months before his retirement, that forced him to quit.
The fans got agitated after his failure in few series, which always happens. The same thing has happened with Sachin also, and dravid also. But it is the players decision.
And I think ganguly did the best thing by retiring himself. It is better than being chucked out.
The last match he played in India against Australia, he scored a century, knocking out all the speculations regarding his poor form. He surely was a good cricketer.
