Why, hello stranger, lovely to see you, a very very happy new year to you dear friend, I hope you are well and certainly up for a challenge I see, I wish you all the best goes without saying and I know you'll do it! The only way I lost weight was through exercise, I had been dieting for years, on and off, on and off, like yo-yoyoing if that's a word! I love my food to much, I would binge eat then I would starve myself, I tried all sorts of diets, I was overweight and very unhappy, in the end I decided to brave the gym and boy did I get the results, I went from 16 stone to 12.7 stone, but that was over a course of many many years, my waist size went from 38 inch to 32 inch not bad huh! Even now at 38 years I am still a trim '32 waist, albeit I am 13 and half stone, I would love to get back to 12.7 stone but at least I can now eat what I want when I want without worrying. I go to the gym 3 times a week and I just get addicted to the cross trainer. Only yesterday I was on the machine for 45 minutes non stop! Anyway good luck my dear friend and keep us posted and a very very successful and healthy 2010 xxxx

Hello Wolfie, A very Happy New Year to you also, yes I have been away from here for far too long but I am back now and will keep you updated. I need to get fit as I am flying out to USA in October to run a marathon for Help For Hereos and some Cancer charities with another work collegue, should be fun but would like to look better and feel better in my lycra lol. Well done you, congratulations, that is an amazing achievement. I know you do spend lot of time down the gym and that obviously works really well for you so keep up the good work. Naughty boy for being on cross trainer 45 minutes non-stop you are supposed to take a brak after so many minutes and have a rink ;) May 2010 bring you all you hope for. Big huggles. Ellie :) xxx

I have a drink on the machine whilst I am working out! I have a bottle of blackcurrant to guzzle LOL! I also think that if you have people to help you, support you and give you encouragement and incentive that too is a great motivator xxx

I've lost almost 45 lbs since June 1st. I started at almost 250 and am down to almost 200. I haven't weighted in a while, but I don't think I actually gained during the holidays, tho I may not have lost any - but that would be a success all on its own.
I am continuing my diet, this is the diet they put my roommate on to lose some weight before her gastric bypass surgery, that she had on Dec 9th - she lost 50 lbs.
It cuts way back on carbs and protein and way up on fruits and veggies. And, despite those who think the first 10 had to be water weight, I also way increased the amount of fluid I've been drinking.

Hi ElicBxn, Wow you have done really well, congratulations :) Thanks for sharing. A woman I work with has had a gastric bypass and is also doing really well but I think that is quite a drastic measure to take for myself as I only need to lose about a stone really. Huggles. Ellie :D

I could still stand to lose 60-80 lbs - not sure what a "stone" is - know its a British measure in there...
My insurance doesn't cover the surgery, but hers does - and she needs to lose 100-120 lbs - still.
I figure if I try to stay on this, maybe by next Christmas even I'll see a change

I don't have any pounds to loose, but I may have good advice for those who want to loose few pounds. I have the same cloths size since age of 14 and I am not starving, in fact I eat a lot. People who stay with me for at least one week are loosing weight, so maybe my kitchen is doing some magic tricks....

Well... I'll share with you my experience... losing weight its not that hard.. I just went to a nutritionist!I followed the program that she gave me, and I lost 20kg in just 3 months... It wasn't too difficult. I just ate healthy food... but once a week I ate whatever I wanted!!
It felt a nice feelling everytime I climb on the scales and saw that I had lost weight!
p.s. sorry for my english, but I'm foreign ;)

Hi Ellie!
I haven't really tried anything new, but I have decided to take it slowly but steadily instead of fast and panicky. No use to stress about the bikini season and then add the weight again in October, so I plan to use a couple of years. After all I've used a couple of years gaining it.
And I've been getting acupuncture, not sure how effective it has been for the metabolism but the last time I got it it reduced my cravings for chips and chocolate!

I have tried acupuncture and it is the most wonderful experience and sensation I have ever received, trouble is it made me so relaxed I kept drifting off to sleep, unfortunately for me the sessions were quite expensive, but acupuncture I certainly would endorse and recommend but it depends on the person, it doesn't suit everyone.

Wow! It's so very nice to see a discussion by you again! Welcome back. I did lose a bunch of weight in the past...and have kept most of it off. I did it by cutting out four things....excess salt.....excess sugar...switched from regular to diet soda....and cut down on breads. Otherwise I use portion control. Stop when you feel full meaning you don't have to eat everything on your plate even if some child is starving someplace as they won't get your excess food anyway...my mother used to tell us that all the time....eat everything as someone is starving...LOL..

Hi Jill, Lovely to see you in this discussion too. Yes I have been away for a while but am hopefully back a bit more frequently from now on. Well done for having lost and kept off that is such an achieve, ment as most people tend to put back on and more. Eating slower and chewing more helps and you tend to fill more full too. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hello Ellie. I've missed you. Firstly I think that you look perfect as you are! I have tried to lose weight with a colleague years ago. We bet each other a cream cake for the one that lost the most. I went on the F Plan diet - remember that one? I lost two stone in three weeks and then put almost all of it back on in another fortnight! Such is life. Enjoy your £300!!

Hi P1kef1sh, Thanks so much for saying that but I need to get fitter and trimmer a running a marathon for Help $ Heroes and varous cancer charities later in the year. F plan? No I haven't heard of that one. I think if you lose weight too quickly it doesn't give your body chance to adjust to be able to maintain the new lower weight which is why you put back on and a bit more I am guessing. I can't win any of the proze money as I am helping run the event. Huggles. Ellie :D

I will pm you to find out the details as it might help me in my own goal. hugs back hatley.

Hi Ellie. I think you have come back to MyLot around the same time as me. Good luck with this new venture.
The one time I succeeded in losing weight was when a gang of us at work decided to do it together. I was feeling a bit desperate because I'd just seen myself on a video! We followed a diet that allowed 5 small meals a day, with a list of items to choose from. They were things like a tomato sandwich or a tub of cottage cheese and a celery stick. Somehow I didn't feel so hungry when I knew I only had to wait about three hours for the next snack. But I did cheat a bit. I had a man and several children to cook for at night, so I cut out one of the five meals and just had smaller portions of the same as my family. We had a collecting box and all put a small amount in each week that we didn't lose any weight and we had a weigh in once a week. I did lose a pound or so each week and at the end I'd lost more than anyone else and won all the money in the collecting box.

That sure sounds exciting, and the fact that you get help about nutricion sounds even better. Most of the time people want to loose weight fast and will start to eat too little and they do not increase their activity. This way losing weight is not a good and healthy thing, and once you start eating your regular diet again everything will just pop back on. Whenever I feel like I should loose a few pounds I increase my physical activity slowly up to a certain level and try to eat right and snack less. I will loose the pounds pretty quickly and then slowly return to my regular routine, and it will most likely stay off. The holidays are times of year that people tend to put on some extra weight, so I guess it will be crosstraining multiple times a week again from now on .
