i was thinking about classics. then it came to me about oldest movies. have you tried watching some black and white movies? what was the oldest movie you have watched and how did you like it. i have seen the legendary james bond but this is no black and white movies. i have seen superman but also in colored movie. i have watched a part of a movie by frank sinatra. yet i can't remember the title or i just cared about the way he sang on that movie. the classic musical movie by julie andrews, i loved it. but again it was a colored movie. i should have finished watching the famous godfather but i haven't done it yet.

A while ago, back in middle school, as an elective, I took classic movies as a class. I thought it would be fun. I thought wrong. I love movies but some things are best left in the past. Now there were good ones like "Casablanca" which I, like almost every woman who has ever watched it, loved. Then we watched "War of the Worlds." It was horrible. Honestly it was almost impossible for my 14 year old mind to suffer through it. Coming from a generation of special effects and the beginnings of CG, it was just something that was almost impossible for me to look at seriously. Now as an adult, I have a new appreciation for that type of movie though. With all our technology, it is so easy to make those things seem believable. But just imagine having only some lights, some motors and smoke! How hard it must be to make something remotely believably futuristic. In a time when cell phones would have been a miracle marvel to the producers, they managed to make something that people looked at in awe and wonder and thought, "wow that's what the future looks like." It makes me wonder what people are going to say about movies like Avatar 60 years from now. Are they going to look at them and say "well they did the best with what they had but their technology was limited and this was what they ended up with." Isn't that a funny thought?

This Christmas I sat down and watched It's a Wonderful Life for the very first time. I'm not sure of the year it was made, but it must be old as it is in black and white instead of colour.

Hi Allie.....It's a Wonderful Life was made in 1946 and directed by the great Frank Capra. If you liked it, you might want to check out "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" which was done in 1939 and also starred Jimmy Stewart. I watch "It's a Wonderful Life" every single Christmas! A great story that holds up even today!

The oldest movies i have seen would have to be shirley temple movies. When she was little she maxde so many of them and they are excellent. She was such a talented little girl. the next oldest would have to be The wizard of oz and Gone with the end. All good movies. most of these are black and white.

Hi chimee, well I love the old black and white films but didn't really like the ones before they became talkies. Some of my favourite really old ones were with Greta Garbo, a great beauty in her day, and possibly Queen Christina or Camille may have been her oldest films. Camile is one of the ultimate all time weepies.

Hi Thea09......just had to let you know that actually, Queen Christina (1933) and Camille (1936) came much later in Garbo's career. Her career started in 1920 with a small part in a Swedish film. Bigger Garbo performances before those you mention are in "Mata Hari" (1931) and "Grand Hotel" (1932). Her biggest break-through performance was in "Ninotchka" (1939). You're right about "Camille" though. A true tear gusher if ever there was one! lol.

...Hi chiumee, Happy 2010. Welcome to the ranch, enjoy, it is a fun place to hang out. I was flipping around the television, as is my normal routine, and I saw an old looking cowboy picture. It caught my eye because of the way it appeared, as if it was colored or recolored or just the look of the picture. So I checked to see when it was filmed, it was done in 1931, I was kind of shocked, why I don't know. I have seen some very old black and white movies which I do like a lot, especially the mysteries. Why this movie with that date made me look twice I don't know. Maybe it was because I thought it should have been in black and white, I really don't know. Just chimming in. Take care.

I cannot think of any one black and white movie I've seen. Most of the old movies I've watched are colored even if they are really old. Anyway, the oldest movie I've seen is "The Sound of Music". I remember when we were still kids, our parents would let us watch it whenever it's shown on TV. My dad even bought a DVD of it which I also let my daughter watch just recently.

Thinking of it the oldest movie I have seen is Bronenosets Potyomkin. Is a Russian movie from the year 1925. Is mute and in black and white.
Maybe it's because I like classic things, but I enjoyed watching the movie.

I'm not sure how old the movies are. But I'm sure its pretty old since the actors are quite old at present. The two classic movies that I find interesting to watch all over again are "Barefoot in the Park" and Ice Castle. If you want to fall inlove all over again, I recommend this two movies.

I do not remember any specific movies. However, I vaguely recall watching some films from around the 1930s in school. They might have been older, put on a projector. So that was an interesting experience. Actually, come to think of it, a long time ago, I remember seeing part of a silent film on television. So that would have to be older but I cannot remember much more than that.
