Tips on Freelance Rewriting, Anyone?

I was bored and so I went out to try freelancing. Any one here has any tips on rewriting? How many minutes or hours do you usually spend composing an article with about 500 words? I feel so blessed to have been given this project, however, I still need to see how slow I am working and what needs to be improved. I do not like working haphazardly but I know people who works with one article for just a few minutes. Is there such a thing as "haphazardly" acceptable?
