predicting Stock Market Movement. Is it a pure guess?

Many a times It becomes compulsory for all the stock traders to predict the market movement. How do you do it? Is it a pure guess or there is some technical /fundamental analysis that goes?

I am not an expert in stock market but I heard that it depends on the stock player/investor/broker which method he wants to use in buying and selling stocks.
As far as I know, fundamental analysis is much safer to use that technical. This is just base on my opinion.
