Why do we need to have a dessert mostly sweet foods or fruits after meal? Is it medically proven to be healthy too?

Hi Denver, of course we don't need dessert after a meal. Maybe a few times a year I'll do something like a crumble to have afterwards but generelly speaking a meal is enough. I always give my son fruit later but that isn't dessert, it's usually before bed, and he enjoys it plus of course it's healthy.

I think it is optional depending on the personal choice. Dessert are given to take away the taste or after taste if any from the last food eaten. Fruits are also desserts for it serves as liquid agent as cleansing of the teeth, gums and other odors left in the mouth after eating. Desserts are sweet in nature and when taken, it will give you loss of appetite and the feeling not wanting to eat anymore for the meantime.

I only have deserts after special occasion meals, definately not every meal. I thin kmost deserts are not healthy for you and you are eating it closer to the time you go to bed so have less time for your body to digest the simple sugars and fats. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to eat dessert and they are some of my favorite things to make, but that doesn't make them any healthier and therefore I must resist.

It is good to have a dessert after a meal but I am not sure if it is after every meal. I have some dessert or some sweet after food most of the days, some days I do skip this habit also.

Hello denver... I am the type of person who usually have desserts after meals. But I think having desserts after meals is not necessary. It just so happened that I am used to having those desserts.

No, we dont need dessert every meal because that would only mean additional expenses and additional lbs. in our weight. But I think having dessert sometimes would not hurt. We can also eat fruits after a meal so that we can avoid sweets.

hi denverlc If we eat fruits yes its really quite healthy and should be included in at least two meals. other sweet fancy desserts are something else,if you are slim, not diabetic, and can metabolize food well okay you may get bye. but they really do not add anything to good health, just good eating pleasure, but for a lot of people they are fattening and cause high blood glucose readings for us diabetics. we could really do without all that overly sweet stuff, and just eat good fruit instead, much healthier for us. we do need our veggies and our fruits.
