In India especially in South India there is a practice of marrying maternal uncle(mother's brother) paternal cousin (father's sister son or daughter). Do you also have this practice in your country?
Please share your ideas or do you marry any other relations in the family?

I know that it is common among a particular religion to marry first cousins in South Inida. It is practiced in old ages to prevent the money of the family going out. I don't agree with marrying a relative. It is not god for biological reasons. It is also fun to find somebody out of the family, marry him, and be a part of a differnt faimly which is not familiar to you.
Two of my friends parents are cousins. One girl has a kidney problem because her parents are close relatives. The girl went for a kidney transplant. She is unable to have children. Also, she is under medication. She is the only daughter of her parents. Another girl is fine, but her sister has only the mental growth of a three year child even though she is in her late twenties.

Also, it is against the church rule for Catholics to marry their cousin. There should be atleast a difference of 5 generations for marriage. Once a girl I know was in love with her second cousin. It was a big issue with the chruch and their family and church forced them to be apart. That is sad. There should be a rule that nobody should marry their cousin.

I think that this is illegal in Canada. It is like incest. I don't think that intermarriage in families is a good idea. Children born of such marriages can suffer from birth defects etc.
We also don't have arranged marriages here. We do have some polygamists here in BC though. This too is illegal in Canada, but they seem to have found some kind of legal loophole to get away with it. Disgusting.
