Cell phones have come a very long way from the first models that were available. WE were fortunate to be able to make calls when we had reception! Now there are many available features on a cell phone. Cameras, video recorders, voice recorders, projecters now and tons of other options. ARe all the gadgets really worth the extra money? I opt to not have the internet on my phone, mostly because I still use my phone for its primary purpose: phone calls! And partly because I get frustrated when it doesn't do all it's billed to do! The internet is very limited on cell phones. Now it may be better presently but I have friends who can do very limited things on line using their phone. What do you think? Are all teh gadgets worth the money?

How is the connection to the internet with you smart phone though? Can you actually browse and check email? Most times you can browse but actually responding in something like myLot isn't available. Do you have the internet freedom on the smart phone?

I think so, it depends on if you are really going to use it! I just bought some themes for MyTouch & I feel that it was worth it because it's at a low cheap price only 99 cents. Can't really beat that, but for the other applications I haven't really found out what I need yet!

I guess as long as the apps are useable that makes them worth the expense! It's all the ones we buy just to have and then don't use them that kinda get me! I have to have logical uses for things or to me they are not "worth" it!

Hi there Macdingolinger,
I personally don't think all the gadgets are worth it but that's me. I lived without a cellphone for years. I finally got a trac phone this year because to be honest, I could see the benefits. I travel home from work late at night so it is good to have in case of a break down or something. I also have a 15 yr old who is always needing rides or something and so she can reach me if I'm not at home. The phone itself cost me 20.00 and all my minutes double each time I add them on. I have a landline phone and only a select few people have my trac#. They don't call me just to chat so my minutes last me quite a while. They do expire after 3 months but if I add minutes at the end of 3 months before the time runs out then they just go onto the next 3 months and accumulate. I spend about 20.00 every 3 months on it. Not too bad, huh?

I know. That is exactly how I was too. But then again, I thought the same thing about microwaves when they first came out. For Christmas back then, my dad got my little brother a TV and got me and my other brother each a microwave because we had families. I thought what a waste of money. I will never use that. Was I ever wrong. Same with computers and now I would not want to be without it. As tight as my budget gets, I always make that internet payment!

I guess if I used a lot of the gadgets they might be worth the money. I find them all frustrating and not as useable as by other means.I occasionally take a picture but I need to upgrade my phone as I can only send it to another cell and not to my email. I used tohave a phone that allowed me to send a picture to an email and that was nice.

I think that whether the 'gadgets' are worth the money depends on the person and whether or not they make full use of all the bells and whistles.
My middle son, who just turned 30yrs, just loves his phone that does it all and can speed right through whatever app he is using from making a call to surfing the internet to mapping out directions to the nearest WalMart.
As for me, I keep a basic cell phone because I just want it for short calls or emergencies. I guess if you did not have unlimited long distance or high speed internet at home and your cell was your "do it all" phone, then I can see the point in spending the money for one.
However, for me, at this point in my life....I do not see the need for all the extras on my cell phone.

I guess cell phone use is just as varied as the user! It's all about what you need and what you will realistically use. I travel and can see why a maps app would be a great advantage on the road!

I fully agree with you...It is the same with many gadgets, even household or kitchen gadgets. My family once called me the 'gadget queen' cause I went out and got every new thing that came along, but I am learning that it really does come down to will you really use it and will it bring more peace and happiness into your life or not. I am not saying that these things are in any way a bad thing....it just comes down to what each individual needs or uses. Have a great day!

I think the gadgets are much costly, due to its newness and uniqueness but after sometimes the costs lowers but still I feel that these gadgets are not worth of what we are paying bcoz the things used in it are so small that they should not cost much.
companies are taking money merely on the technology and not on the consumption of materials.

I hear ya. I pretty much won't buy something when it first hits the market. I wait and let the bugs and kinks get worked out first. Then when the price goes down I look seriously at the purchase!

I think it all depends on what it has on it, and what you paln to do with it. I think the more features it has the more it will cost. My phone has a lot fo features but I don't use all of them, but they are there if I ever need to or ant to. Mine cost $100, and that is after a $100 rebate. I am limited on the internet though as it it doesn't have a flash player nor does it have java. I wish I had bought one with flash and java, but I have deal with it for awhile as I just upgraded in August, so it is just to soon. I really don't go on the interet eith it all that much anyway, so it is okay. Take car, and happy mylotting.

Not being able to use the internet is a disadvantage. I might consider going with all the gadgets if you got more for the money!

Hello macdingolinger me too think that the current worlds gadgets are worth to its cost as they are more multi tasking, and innovative in thier models. Its very helpful to us in this busy and fast daytoday life.If we are able to use each and every feature and function fo the gadget that too in an appropriate way than its worth to its cost.Me too cary my cell phone for other purposes than just calling and rec it.Got camera, sms, radio, walkman, internet, diary, alarms, etc features in it which i use regularly.Anyways enjoy your usage of gadgets, and keep on upgrading in it.Happy mylotting.

It depends on the phone, the person, and the reception, and the provider. Phones still have their limitations especailly cell phones. Cell phones still and probably will always use raido waves to send and recieve signel. And despite networks best efforts to expand the range of those radio waves, society is always counteracting those efforts by constructing sky scrapers or using signel-blocking metel in buldings, and what not which makes phones difficult to use. Keeping this in mind the "gagets" phones have are only as good as the provider and location.
For some they live in an area where the features come in very handy and have little to no problems. For others, they don't try to justify the expence because no matter what they do it won't work.
In short, if it suits your lifestyle and you're lucky enough to live in an area where the extra features are benifical to you then yes its worth it.
