Normally I used to sleep for 5 hours in a day. But some people say that we need to sleep atleast for 8 hours and some others say that 5 hours is enough. Friends, can you tell me how many hours of sleep do our body needs to take rest and how many hours do you sleep in a day?

It depends upon individual's health and age. May be if you deep sleep for 5 hours, may be it will be enough. Since you are aged, you need to nap in the noon too for about 30 mts to keep yourself fresh and stay healthy. Take regular walks in the morning and in the evening

Hi vathsala! I thin sleep of 6-8 hours is sufficient as per our body requirements. If you do not feel tired or exhausted after 5 hours sleep and manage your affairs nicely, you should not think too much about it. I take approximately 7 hours sleep during working days, however on weekends I would try to take some extra sleep in the afternoon to make up the loss. I think those who can afford so sleep less are very active and agile.

Hi Deepak You are right. For a healthy person, 6-8 hours of sleep is sufficient. I think only new born babies must sleep for more hours to grow. Though I sleep for 5 or 6 hours a day, I do not know whether I am active or agile but one thing I know for sure that is I am very very lazy LOL

When Indira Gandhi was alive, I used to read in magazines that she sleeps only for 4 hours. Great Yoga master Ramdev sleeps for 5 hours. So I feel it is individual's body nature that decides how much sleep a person should have. My husband sleeps for 5 hours and will be active throught the day. But I need at least 6 hours of sleep positively. Otherwise next day my energy level will be pretty low.

You are right. sleeping time differs from person to person and their nature of the body and immune system. If I do not have proper sleep during the night, I will take a nap in the afternoon to compensate and feel fresh and energetic throughout the day

hi,vathsala,Well, here i am posting some info based on research studies... The amount of sleep you need depends on many factors, especially your age. Infants typically sleep at least 16 hours a day. Most preschoolers need at least 11 hours of sleep a night, and most school-age children need at least 10 hours of sleep a night. By the teenage years, nine hours of sleep a night is usually adequate. For most adults, seven to eight hours a night seems about right. At any age, getting enough sleep boosts your immune system. Sleep also helps your nervous system work properly. So how many hours of sleep are enough for you? It's probably best to aim for about seven to eight hours of quality sleep a night. Also, remember that quality of sleep is just as important as quantity. If your sleep is frequently interrupted or cut short, you're not getting quality sleep. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/how-many-hours-of-sleep-are-enough/AN01487 Have a nice time,my friend.

Hi Neelima For a healthy person I do not think 8 hrs. sleep is needed. But if he is sick or due to some other reasons like hard work during the day, he can take 8 hours sleep for rejuvenation. You are my best friend. Since you asked me to sleep for atleast 8 hours, definitely I will try to sleep. That is 6 hours for me and an extra 2 hours for you. OK? happy? ha ha ha ha

to my knowledge 8 hrs. is minimum and ideal time a normal human has to sleep, because all the organs in you body needs to be tuned up & repaired every night so that we can have a refreshed day after the night's sleep. I hope you got my point.

Hi vinkumar Your point sounds like true. May be all our organs need a considerable amount of rest to rejuvenate. For that 8 hrs. is sufficient but it should not be a disturbed sleep

hi vatsala garu, regarding sleep, all my sleep is diverted to the computer and net, previously i use to sleep 6 hrs,now it has reduced to 5 or some times 4 ,so while on the work at shop,i am sleepy most of the time,i think at this age you have to take sleep more than 6 hours, still you are getting up early, take good sleep every day, have a nice day

Hi Yugasini Garu You are right I think. young people can be active even if they take 5 or 6 hours sleep a day where as aged and small kids should take more rest, the former for the sake of age and fragileness, the later for the sake of growth

According to my mom, 8 hours of sleeps are only for kids coz it helps them grow. When you are already a teen, you really don't need to sleep that much. 6 hours is enough to recover your energy. I myself sleeps approximately 5 to 7 hours when I have classes and it varies if I don't have class. The thing is don't stay awake if it is not needed coz it will consume or deplete your energy resulting to more hours of sleep :D

I too totally agree with you my friend. When there is no work and we are simply idling why should we keep awake? So that times I will go to sleep. But generally I will be awake upto 11 pm and get up around 5 am. In the noon, i will take a small nap and in this way I will keep myself fresh always.
