In New Zealand and parts of Austrailia there is a religion called Jedi. It is the belief that there is a "force" that binds all living things on earth. This religion has some 70,000+ followers. So do you think this is just a bunch of star wars geeks or perhaps the real deal?

well really, the ideas that are put forward in the film as the Jedi spiritual path are not so very different from Pantheism. which is the basis of very many religions.
in fact, it's really not a million miles away from what I actually beleive in. no, I don't consider myself a Jedi, but when I watch the star wars films, the spirituality is very familiar to me in my own path.

Hi brockily89,
You would be surprised at the amount of people that would practice Jedi as a religion. Just don't mention the midichlorians
It is a nice thought that the force binds all things in the universe together. I would say the Jedi way of life would be more harmonious than a lot of other religions.
I guess most of the followers would be Star Wars geeks but nothing wrong with that.
May the force be with you

hey in my opinion, man has always looked for ways toconnect with a higher body that we have this inner consciousness of the existence of though even the atheist fail yto admit this fact but its a fact of life, many do this by joining various funny religions and yet they still feel that emptiness,in my opinion i think any religion or believe that doesnt really take the consciousness of God does not do it for me,most of what we call religion today ios actually one form of brainwashing or the other

I have heard that it is a real religion and is indeed based upon the star wars movie. I rembers sometime ago I had heard a report on the raido that a police officer in the U.K had refused to arrest a subspect becase he was a member of the religon. I am not sure about was the status of the religion is here in the us, but I am sure that this is members.

Not too surprising as the force being a connection between all living beings is just another version of many religions including Taoism. Jedi just as real of a religion as scientology, just without the lawyers to sue you if you disagree!
