I offer you a challenge...

Hello all :)) For those of you who don't already know her, SavyPat has started a new interest called "pay it forward." This is where you talk about good things that have come into your life that you've passed on to others...as Pat said, it starts with a smile. What a great way to begin a new year. I challenge each of you to join this new interest category and to tell us all about the last good thing you received that you paid forward. For me, it was enough online earnings that I was able to donate some money to three of my favorite charities. Another thing was the many magazines and books my mother gave to me that I was able to take to nursing homes when I was finished reading them. So what say you all? What have you most recently paid forward? Do you like Pat's idea and interest category? Karen

Hi PeacefulWmn9, I guess the last thing I did, although small was to help a lady the other night, carrying a bag of logs to her car. It was at the local service station, I was surprised as none of the staff there was helping her, I had a job there as a teen and it was part of the job to help customers out with heavy goods. I likes Pats interest category and it will fit in nicely on myLot

Hello Zone Helping a stranger is no small thing, and I think what you did will probably be remembered by that person for a long time. It is surprising how many lives we touch with the simplest things. What you did was definitely "paying it forward." Karen

Hi Karen, i don't know if this is what u are talking about or not but Christmas day a girl's house burned that i have known forever. She lost everything. I sent her some money, does that count in the new interest category?

NO, I haven't seen the movie. I'm glad that counted. I like helping people but can't get out & do as much of it as i use to. I have lost most of the people i helped anyway which is sad.

Hi ANTIQUELADY, What you did does definitely count. Paying it forward is all about giving and passing it on. If you have a good day then pass it on to others and then they pass it on and so forth. No matter how small the gesture, if we keep passing it on, we might just make a difference.

Hello Jo...yes! That absolutely counts as "paying it forward." I don't know if you've seen the movie that started this movement, but it was based on the true story of a kid....a young boy who started the whole concept and wave of paying things forward. Karen

Hi Karen! I appreciate the idea of new interest category called "pay it forward". As you told that one can talk about good things come into one's life. It is really heartening to know that you donated your on-line earnings to your favourte charities. It is all the more good to know that you donated magzines/books to a nursing home, you apparently did a great job for the needy persons. I can only say that I help my friends in whatever manner I can and always remain ready to work as their support system, in case my services are required. I cannot recall anything specific which I have recently done. Have a nice day! Deepak

Hello Deepak. It was through God's grace that I could do those things, and it made me happy! I can well imagine that it is simply and intricate part of your nature to give help as needed, and that is also a way of paying forward: your encouragement, your wisdom and advice, your triggering of another's imagination. I have experienced that from you right here on mylot. Oh, and you set a fine example of decency! Karen

Hi Karen! I love SavyPat's new category! I know all about "Paying It Forward! I saw the movie when I was in Rehab and we learned just what it meant! I always knew and always lived by it without even thinking, as I had told Pat! I always helped out neighbors in need, strangers when I could! But, now it is a New Year and it is time for me to find someone else to "Pay It Forward" to! I will be looking around and thinking about my next venture and will keep you all aprised!

Hi Opal What a great thing to have lived it your whole life. I think many of us do, but we don't give it a second thought when it is part of our nature. Once we do pay even closer attention, we can pay forward even more of the good that comes our way...even if, as Pat said, it is a kind smile to a stranger :)) And yes, please share your next venture. It can trigger a good idea in the rest of us so we can also pay it forward! Karen

Hello Yugasini. It is so nice to see you back! I am glad your system is working again :) I, too, can only donate small amounts when it comes to money, but think that when a thousand or a million people donate just a little how much it adds up to and all of the good that can come of it! Then, it is not such a small thing after all :) Karen

Hi Karen, Of course I love the idea. I pass forward cash for my mom’s medicine, shared food that I cooked as one of our specialties in our province, gave all the staff I met in the office a smile and a good day greeting, affirmation to my kids for a chore done and a loving massage for my husband who pass forward to me his extra money that we can use until we receive the next salary. Thanks savypat for this wonderful idea and thanks to you to Karen for the reinforcement!

Hi there Ms...always good to see you! It is so good of you to "pay forward" to your mom and to be such a help to her. I know it must make a positive difference in her life. And then all those other kind things you have done. Imagine the lives you've touched. I think that is very special indeed. Karen

I don't know how to answer this. Do you mean a gift given to you that you later gave to someone else in need? I don't keep track of everything I do or how often. I have a friend who teaches in an adult literacy program and I have been collecting books for her; does that count?

It simply means passing "blessings" or yes, gifts forward, not necessarily in the exact same manner, but spreading good. Yes, what you've done definitely counts, in my opinion.
