Anyone figure out what I just said yet? I am curious how long it will take to get a correct response to that question. With the massive success of cell phones came text messaging. With text messaging came the use of accronyms, originally because text rates were expensive so conversations were abbriviated to save money on texting. Later it became a means for teens to send messages to their friends without their parents knowing what they were saying. And, now just about everybody uses these accronyms on a daily basis in one way or another. Has this form of communication gotten totally out of control? Are we ultimately dumbing down our society? How long do we let this total lack of the proper use of language go before we do anything about it? Will future generations of people ultimately loose their grasp of the written word out of sheer laziness? Ok, that last one might be an exaggeration, but you get the point. So let me ask you again, Have you figured what I just said? I wonder how long it will take to get a 100% correct answer? This should be interesting.

You got the first part, and the last part, but you completely skipped over IUHAI and FWIW. Think about it for a while, and you'll probably get it too. There are clues scattered throughout this discussion from everyone who has actually attempted it. All of you have some, or most of it right, but known of you have it 100% correct. It's getting close though

Yes I can ,but It will have to wait until I see how well this discussion is responded too, and if anyone can get the phrase deciphered 100% correctly. So I'll have to get back to you on that one. But give it a little time and I will let you know the site I got the information from.

Ok you wanted to know what that phrase means and I haven't got a response in a couple days so here it is on your post. First the phrase reads in accronyms OMG! LMAO, JW IUHAI WTH IJS, FWIW It's EZ. Which means (Oh my God-laughing my a** off,- just wondering-if you have any idea-what the hell-I just said,-for what its worth-It's easy. So there you have it. If you want to learn more to surprise your neice then just type in "chatlingo" in your internet brower, and it will give you several sites you can go to, and find a huge list of phrases and there accronyms.

I remember watching an episode of this TV show where the dad character felt that he was "in tune" with today's teen lingo. He was really proud because he knew LOL meant "laugh out loud" but he thought WTF meant "Why the face?". Now that just made me LMAO. Hee.
I'm guilty of using IIRC (If I remember correctly), IMO (In my opinion) and the occasional use of LOL. What I really don't get is "txtspk". For example: "Lyk d00d wt u doin ryt nw? M hir jst chilin"

Hi Inkyoboz,
I agree, If somebody sent me a message like that I would simply reply WTH, Dude learn to type. Everybody uses accronyms from time to time, but to use them for evrything has just got out of control.

Hello, Raven. NAFC! Hope you can work that out - I presume you will, as it looks to me as if you've just paraphrased the Klingon Book of Rules. While I have breath in my body, acronyms will never achieve the world domination they seek. I hate to see this beautiful language of ours mangled. I send text messages, but I'm the only person I know who spells out every word as it should be spelled. Not surprisingly, I'm the slowest texter in town, but do I GAF? What do you think?

Hi Sandra,
Actually I don't use have of these things when instant messaging or using chat in some of my other social networking sites. I had to seek professional guidance from my niece, and an internet site I found on chat lingo to come up the title for this discussion. Truth be told, I am supposedly one of the 5% of americans that does not own a cell phone, and never has. My career before dissability was in the call center customer service industry, and I worked alot. Why would I want to make it easier for my job to call me into work more. Just thought it would be an interesting topic and be fun to see how long it takes to get a 100% correct answer. But, I'm more like you, I almost always type everything out.

That "IUHAI" is the hardest one to look for, but if the previous poster is correct, then maybe it's something like this?
Oh my gosh / Laughing my a** off / Just wondering / if you have any idea / what the heck / I'm just saying / for whoever is wondering / it's easy.
I'm not that fond of using shorthands (with the exception of "lol"). I understand that when it comes to texting, it's faster and easier to use shorthands, but when people make a post consisting of mostly of these shorthands in online forums, it just annoys me a lot. To me, it's faster to just type out all the words than having to remember all these acronyms.

Well Strikezero, You are actually the closest yet, you have just a few words her and there that are not correct. But another very good guess. Just wondering how long it should let this go before I give the answer. Those who are attempting are getting pretty much the gist of it, but not exactly correct. I guess since that was the challenge I will give it a little while longer. Very good guess though.

Hi Latalia,
Ok, Very good, you are extremely close, and only have a few words wrong. One word in the middle, and the end of phrase is wrong. If you think about for awhile, or do a little search you will probably get it perfect. Also If anyone else reads your comment you are giving alot of clues as to what exactly it says. Very Very Close

That was hard. I only figured out 4 of the acronyms on your topic's title. But yeah, it's true that most kids speak like that nowadays because of constant texting. I must admit, I sometimes abbreviate some words to make the message a bit short, but not to that extent. It gives me a headache, really, to read those kinds of messages on my phone. What's worse is that it's becoming normal, a culture in society. I really hope kids today will learn how to type the words normally and not murder their spelling.

Don't feel bad, I actually had to look up common texting abbreviations on the internet to come up with the title in the first place. I'm sure someone alot younger than I am will come up with a correct answer soon enough. But, your right and that's the point. Are our children losing the ability to spell even the most common words just because we are lazy, and won't take the time to spell it out. For all of our sakes I to hope our kids will learn to use language properly. God help the teachers of the world.
