Happy birthday to you
You live in a zoo
You look like a monkey
And you smell like one too
Remember that from school?
Well anyway, I was shopping last month and I found a little stuffed monkey that sings that when you squeeze it. So I got it. I thought it would make a great gag to put on top of my Dad's birthday present.
Then Cary found it. He loves the silly thing. I'm afraid it's going to get worn out long before Dad's birthday. Maybe I should just let him keep it.
Did you ever buy something and then have your kids hijack it and it never got used for the purpose intended?

Hi Dawn,
This refreshes my kinder and elementry days...please allow me to share my version of this happy birhtday song...
happy birthday to you, you belong to the zoo
when the turtles come to greet you
happy birthday to you
may monkey bless you
elephant will guard you
do not think of the danger
happy birthday to you
happy birthday to you
you belong to heaven
when the angels come to greet you
happy birthday to you.
May God bless you and
saints will guard you
do not think of the danger
happy birthday to you!
Just let Cary enjoy it and later share the story about the monkey stuff with your dad. i am confident your dad will even appreciate it-- that his grandson loves the stuff that you're suppose to give or surprise him.
This always happen to us--some surprises being hijacked by our kids hehehehe.
maybe to add twist to your dad's birthday you can teach cary my birthday song version it will make dad's day extra special.

I hate that song, lol.. but sometimes whenever my family members sing it to me for fun, I laugh like crazy. I don't have kids so I can't answer that...but I've been known to hijack surprise gifts myself..and ending up buying others for the intended people, LOL..

Hi, D!
When it became really annoying was when it started to be things like shoes and clothes! Or the car. Otherwise, I just figured that's part of a kid's job, which, of course, is to remind parents not to even attempt to plan anything!

Let's see, Dearra has to grow 2 more sizes before she can fit into my shoes. And she would have to gain a LOT of weight for the clothes to be in danger. Guess I could unpack some of my old stuff that I've outgrown though. It's not like I"m going to be wearing it any time soon!

She would probably like some of the old stuff you have packed away. You know things run in cycles and sometimes the older stuff is the better our kids like it.

i REALLY DON'T REMEMBER THAT FROM SCHOOL but it sounds about right for what kids will say, lol. i think cary should get to keep the monkey. my kids use to do things like that & to be honest i have done the same thing to & had to go back & buy another gift.

That sounds like a cute toy - no wonder it was hijacked. Yes that happened a few times with my daughter, especially when she got to her teenage years. Usually with shoes because we're the same size, but also bags. In fact nothing has really changed, my daughter is 29 now with her own family and certain pairs of my shoes seem to spend a lot of time at her place!

I didn't have the same shoe size as my mom, so she got lucky. We'll see what happens when the girls get older!

That sounds like a wonderful gift. Suggest to your son........."Since you like this so much, would you like to put your name on the gift card? Then when your grandpa sees it, you will get a hug."
If he says no, go to the store and get another one. Now your Dad and your child can play together.

I so remember this, dawn, but haven't heard it in years...literally! Yeah, my daughter tends to steal my hubby's gifts to him from others. Shirts mainly..
-grabs the monkey and runs madly around the room squeezing it-

That's like Jason, he sometimes jumps in the laundry basket and sits, but mostly he just steals socks.

Hey dawn! I guess the well intentioned thoughts... I guess you
will just have to find something else to put on Dad's present now!
What else can you do? If Cary has already seen it and fallen in
love, what other choice do you have? I guess you should have hide
it better!lol Me, personally I hate monkeys with a passion! My
boyfriend bought me two hugging monkeys for Valentines Day and
I took one look at them and told him to take them back! I happen
to hate monkeys! He looked at me and was shocked! He said there
were other women who were waiting for him to put it down! Well,
I said "You should have!" So, the next day he brought it back
and got me a nice white teddy bear holding a big red
heart! I told him after two year he should know that I love
teddy bears! I think he knows now that monkeys are out!!!

You could let him keep it or buy him another one! We go to a lot of children’s birthday parties and every time I buy a toy for a present my daughter will get to it and refuse to return until I threaten not to allow her to go to the party and she will reluctantly give the toy back before it is ruined. Many times we’ve had to go out and buy the same thing for her or never hear the end of it!

Hi Dawn...oh yes, I do remember that one.
LOL, and yes, I've bought things that to this day, my grown kids or my grandkids confiscate and not been able to use them as originally intended!

Probably if I were to "disappear' the monkey, Cary would never notice, but I guess I'll let him keep it! :-)

I didn't buy something but I did knit a sheep for a nativity scene and my youngest grandson took a liking to it and thought it was for throwing so the nativity scene only got one sheep instead of two.

I suppose if I'd had daughters I would have had that happen, but I can't recall any incidences off hand. (I'm thankful I didn't have daughters. I couldn't have handled them)
Could you get another one for your Dad?

Funny, because I think the girls are going to be easier than Cary (as a teenager anyway). Yes, I probably can get another one! :-)

Oh Intentions how fleeting they can become. I no longer worry to much about my expectation, life is just to short and I can't see the reason for all things so I just let it go. I have learned to fight for what I want only up to a point when obstacles keep showing up it's time to look for another way to go. Blessings

Well, we shall see! My almost 5 year old daughter has been hijacking her little brother's (8 weeks) gifts! It's one thing that she wanted to open his gifts since of course he couldn't open them himself, but she has been stashing the goods in her room! Stuffed animals, a Leap Frog toy, blankets . . . she says she even wants some of his outfits! Good thing we didn't have a baby shower this time around . . . otherwise she would have thought it was HER birthday party or something - ha!
