How did You Select a Preschool?

I am moving my son into a new preschool this week and the selection, or rather, RE-selection process has been daunting. We weren't satisfied with the school we originally selected and now we are putting him in a new one. We are specifically a non-religious family and it's been important for us to find a preschool that wasn't geared around a religious foundation. We also live neighboring both a relatively low and relatively high income community so the preschools were either fairly poor or exceedingly expensive. What did you look for when selecting a preschool? What challenges did you face?

Hello welcome to mylot
My kids even some grandkids are grown up, the youngest granddaughter will be 3 years old next month, when i am free, i teach her numbers and alphabet, she has picked 1,2, 3, 4, 5 and A,B, C,D, E sofar. She can also recognise animals and birds, i bought plastic birds and animals for her..
She will go to pre-school soon... her mom also teaches her, she is a teacher..
There are four schools in my city, we will send her to the best, it is bit far from home and costly though..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.

Well, we were scouting for a lot of school before we decided to enroll our son in his present school. His present school is a newly opened branched near our are. Its was really great since the other branch had a very good reputation and the products were excellent. So when it opened a branched near that area, there was not much to think about.

It was a tough decision for us as well. It was lucky that we had friends in the area that could give us some advise as they had older kids that had already attended preschool. But, before we made the choice, we went to the local elementary school and spoke with the Principal to see what her thoughts were. It came down to three preschools so we talked to some parents in the neighborhood and finally chose the preschool at the local rec center. The staff is professional and the Director was very qualified. Needless to say, it all boiled down to keeping my kids there because they were happy and they were learning.

since i live on a town far from the city(travel time is almost 2hours), i only have 2 choices of available preschool here in our place. i chose the nearest one where you need a few steps to reach it. although i can say that they have a good program, i would still have my kids go on to tutor daily even for 2hours. happy mylotting rbmac1978

I was recently looking at preschools and daycares myself and found them to be very expensive and not all that impressive. I also had problems with the hours as my husband works really early in the morning and I work in the evening and could not make the transportation work with the school and daycare hours. I ended up going with a private family. The dad is a retired teacher and the mom is a state certified childcare provider and piano teacher. They teach my son how to speak russian, play the piano, helped potty train him. It was wonderful and less than half the price of the places with a ton of kids and restricting hours.
