Did you get rid of your landline, and switch over to magicjack? A small device that connect to your PC's USB port, and use your Fast DSL to make phone calls or receive phone calls possible with cheapest value ever.
My friend recently quit the landline service, and switched to magicjack. Somehow, he has some technical problem related to this Voice over IP service. Somehow, the magicjack also slow down his PC's processing speed too. I don't know the reason, and he called the magic jacl customer service, they think that he got a defective unit, and agree to send him a new one; but they still gonna charge him $20 for a new unit though. He wasn't satisfied with it at all, and want to quit on that too.
So, if you are using magic jack, do you have the same problem?

hi. i'm from the philippines but my sister and mother are both in CA. so, what my sister did was to buy a Magicjack and send it to us. and that's how we call talk to them. far as i know, my sister still has their landline. we cannot get rid of our landline as we need it here. but we use the Majicjack to call them in CA. it has poor connection sometimes but if it means getting to talk to them without paying overseas charges, then i'd rather use it than other phone lines.

It is a understandable situation. And definitely in your case, you would rather save your money, and I would do the same if I were you.

The only problem I have with my magicjack is I cant use it using my laptop speaker, I still have to connect it with a telephone in order for me to use it. I wasnt able to return it because we used my friend's credit card. As far as connection is concerned I was able to use it effectively making calls to Canada.

So far, it's been a year and I've no problems with the magicjack. Just the loud static that normally happens when our ISP connection is bad sometimes. I use it here in the Philippines, too. My aunt in Hong Kong uses magicjack, and our relatives in Bakersfield got it, too but they did not give up their landline so whatever would go wrong with the device, they still have their old phone number.

I have never used the magicjack personally, but I wok at a place where we sell large quantities. The upside for a lot of our customers is that you can travel with it, and we are in a military town so there is a lot of travelling. I also understand that a lot of the soldiers can take them overseas and use them while in the middle-east while still having a local number. Also, the service is cheap and unlimited. The downside that causes a lot o customers not to buy, or to return the product is the fact that they have to keep thier computer on all the time, and the delay or lag in conversation.
If you purchase your magicjack at an outhorized retailer such as Radio Shack or Best Buy, you can return a defective device or exchange it for a new one. Radio Shack also offers an extended service plan, so if you have problems down the line it can be replaced.
