Ever done something for yourself that built confidence?

I finally got my hair cut today. When I say 'finally', it's because I've had long hair since I was eight. There's a story behind that, but it's long so I'll skip it. Anyway, today I finally got my hair cut. I had seven inches cut off, and it's up to my chest now! Quite the difference - I also have bangs now, which I haven't had since I was around six years old. I was very nervous at first - in high school when someone said my name the first thing they'd say back was "The chick with the super long hair?" . Since I'm starting college next month, I figured it was time to get a style, instead of my long hair just hanging there, slightly wavy. I love it. Seriously. People say if I take my glasses off I look completely different, which I love. I've gotten a ton of compliments today, even from a couple people I don't know! The members of my family who saw it loved it, my niece even told me I finally look like a college student instead of a high school student [haha]. I sent a couple pictures to my boyfriend, who I was sure would hate it, as he loved my long hair, but to my surprise he loved it too! He said I look sexy and beautiful, even more so than before. All this raised my confidence levels quite high. I feel like I can go into public, and besides my weight, carry myself with pride. I can look people in the eyes for once, I can look at myself in the mirror and see my true potential, and most importantly I feel good! I feel wonderful, actually. So my question to you all is this: Have you ever changed something, such as gotten a haircut, contacts, changed your clothing style, or something else, that has helped you gain confidence? Were you surprised at how much better you felt over something so little? I for one am glad I waited until now to do it, but am happy that I finally did it. =]

I havent done nothing special and in particular but lately I changed just a little my hairstyle. I have curly hair and decided that for xmas and new year, I make blow dry and straighten it. I really looked good since I have tall her. I admit that I prefer my curls but having changed a little made me feel confortable. Sometimes we need just a little change to help us. Anyway now curls are back to normal, I love them!

Well congratulations for a new you i must say. I have the same experience as yours when im still in high school. from years with long black hair and cut it out upto shoulder length it was a major change for me. but the difference i was not able to see that it was really nice for me because of my sisters and cousin never ending tease.. i didn't want to go out for weeks and since at that time there's no hair extensions yet i keep hating my self because of my new style... well until my mom says that Honey,, don't listen to them.. you look good with your new hair and they are just much like it that's why they keep teasing you. I trust my mom more than anyone else.. so with that i changed a lot by having confidence to wear or what changes i wanted to try as i grow up.

I know how you feel - when I was younger and I tried to change the way I dressed, my cousins started calling me a faker and saying I was trying to be like them, so eventually I quit and went back to jeans and sweatshirts. Finally mom told me that if it looked good, and I liked it, that was all that mattered. So now I'm starting to dress more age-appropriate again, and I love it!

I understand how it feels to finally make a bold change and get positive recognition for it. It's a breath of fresh air and a gives you a great sense of relief knowing that people actually like it. During high school, up until the end of my sophomore year, I always had the sort of grungy look. Don't get me wrong the style fits my personality and my musical tastes perfectly, but I in dire need of a change in clothing and hairstyle. So what I decided is grow my hair (completely opposite from your story ha) a bit longer and start wearing jeans that were fitting. So by the time I started my junior year, I had black and brown hair that reached down to my chin and better clothing that were more fitting to me. This was the same year that I finally got a chance to join a band and eventually play shows, my confidence was slowly beginning to rise. Not only did I change my look, I had a way to express myself and filter all my emotions. People began to notice and I was receiving great responses which made me feel even better. One of the people that noticed me was a girl who eventually became my girlfriend of two years. It was one of the greatest experiences in my life, making a bold move, feeling like I was in my place for once, expressing myself musically, and most importantly falling in love.

Good for you, you deserve to be happy and it is also right that you increase your confidence, i am sure the haircut makes you more beautiful than ever. And yes i have done something that i am sure adds confidence to myself, when i first face the father of my wife, and tell him that her daughter is pregnant and i am the father and i will marry his daughter, it is really tough for me cause that time i am still in college, but i do all my best to do it to have a good family and to be a good father and husband. Have a great day!

Oh yes, I once did something which built my confidence and it is when I lost 8-10 pounds. Because I really worked hard on loosing weight and for that fact I felt that I somehow achieved my goal. Aside from that I could wear the clothes I normally can't wear and yes I looked hotter and some people notice...so it definitely felt great. Building confidence depends on your priorities and if you benefit yourself from the acceptance of other people or by your accomplishments then you can definitel say you have gained your confidence and have escalated your status in life through your own precious efforts. Other people depend on the aesthetic appearance in order to achieve the confidence they want. They could go to a hair salon maybe get a haircut or perm. But it does'nt matter, whatever is important to you or anyone should matter in order for you to build confidence because on building confidence you should feel great about yourself, feel proud, stand up easily and say...i'm the best and i'm good. Happy mylotting.

NOOOOO...

Good for you. Everybody deserves to be happy and confident with his/her looks. I am actually confident but not that much. I know that there is still something I want to do in order to boost the level of my confidence. I don't want to brag but honestly, many people used to say I'm pretty and I am always glad to hear about it. But I know I am not perfect and I will never be. There are still some changes about me that I would like to happen. I would like to become and look more beautiful and attractive than I am now. I am still young and I want to spend much for my health and beauty. But the problem is I don't have that much in order to fulfill this dream of mine. I am now starting to save money because I am planning to put on some braces on my teeth. I don't know if it will look good to me but I believe it can somehow help me become more confident in the future.
