I have been wanting to find a free course online for seo or better writing skills but I have yet to find something like that. I was curious if anyone here on mylot knew of any sites that offer that? I love to write but know my writing could be way better. So do you know of any sites that can help you with grammer or seo? Let me know thanks:)

Hi,
My consideration on writing is, the best way to improve it is to read good books. Books of intense subject matters. I personally prefer classical literature rather than the modern ones. Read different types of books, especially nonfiction with good content and excellent writing style. Someday you will be just surprised to find that your writings are getting more organized and stylish. You will also start enjoy writing. Writing with style makes the subject matter interesting to the reader. Also a certain hint of intimacy with the reader definitely helps.
Take care..
god bless you

Thanks for the feedback I am not much of a reader of books although I know I should be. I never really thought about doing that myself. I do thank you for taking the time to respond to my discussion and happy mylotting to you.

Yes read all that you can. I read a lot of fiction and see the spelling as the biggest problem today. I can't understand why it is so bad it only takes a moment to run your spell checker to find most of the misspellings. I write some and I always proof all my scripts before I print them. Maybe there are no good publishers anymore. Or they don't hire good help to proof the stuff before they print it.
As to the search engine optimization help there are several programs that will help with that. I am member of Viral Pond, and the owner helps all her members with instructions on how to optimize their writing so that the search engines will pick it up.

momtrying2makeit unfortunately there are not to many free courses on how to write online, some sites might claim to offer free courses in order to get your email address, but I have been searching for such sites and have found some sites that might interest you. I'm currently doing research because I want to start writing articles for the web and there's a whole lot you must know if you want to become successful in online writing. I also have sites for seo you can add me as a friend if you would be interested in some of these websites.

Try myWritersCircle.com. Subscribe to the free newsletter. There are always tips on how to improve one's writing. There is no need to purchase anything. As a subscriber I dare say that the tips and articles that I have received so far are good. I do not remember how I found it, possibly from Writers.com.

To write is never an easy thing. It is not just like eating peanut while watching the movie. Writing needs skill and of course devotion and interest. We can not force ourself on things which we are not interested of. Before we become a better writer, we need a lot of experiences in life. Experiences leads us to write. I agree with the first responder, reading books is a big help for us to enchance our writing capability, but just like you,i am also not so into reading . When I was still studying, i used to be a part of an organization of writers,i used to write current events and latest news. In addition, I think mylot would also be a better help to develop our writing capacity.I hope this helps you.

Hi Mom,
You can explore the net by searching for "technical writing trainings and courses". i know there will lots of them. you can start by reading books on grammar, writing styles and technical writing while searching for someone or an agency to help you out. for the meantime, try to practice composing and expressing your idea freely. check it out or let others check it for you. someone whom you know has a good command in english and grammar. good luck.

Reading is the only key to success as far as writing goes. The books you choose must be written very well.It is not necessary that you need to use extremely flowery writing; in fact writing in a simple, clear manner that makes the reader comfortable would naturaaly come to you if you keep reading diligently.

I love writing and this is definitely a favourite hobby of mine! There is one suggestion I can make and that is, if you want to improve your writing then you should keep on writing and writing and yes, you guessed it, writing!. You will get better over time and another thing I would recommend you do, and this has already been mentioned by another My Lotter, is read and read and read some more. This definitely improves your writing and you can analyse the words of the author and see how they write! What is their writing style? Can you write like that? Ask yourself these questions! As I mentioned I love to write and I have five short stories or works of fiction published on Triond! Triond is a very good writer's website and I recommend you sign up with them, this is free, and then you can start writing and subsequently have your articles published. I also have articles published on Helium which is another good writing website. I really wish you well with this. Andrew

I am a member of several writing sites, but the ones most helpful cost a few dollars a year. You get some reviews that are really explicit in telling you where you are going wrong AND where you are right on the money.
Just browse for writing sites and several will come up. The best I've found was FanStory. It costs, but it improved my writing immensely. Just be prepared to take criticism as well as applause and you will be fine.

Hi Momtrying2market
I think it is a good thing that you are trying to improve your hand writing for that you need regular practice of writing and it is not necessary that you need to improve your hand writing until it is very dirty and no one can understand your hand writing, you can improve your hand writing to some extent with regular practice. If you think your handwriting is alright and still you want to improve your handwriting then a little hard work is necessary by writing regularly and you can definitely improve your writing. Happy New Year and have a nice day.

You are right KMaroon! It is not necessary that our handwriting should be very neat and beautiful. It is enough if it is legible for others to read.

All of those are good suggestions, but until writing is critiqued by published writers and real editors, writing seldom improve sufficiently to be publishable. With the number of publishers shrinking, they tend to accept nearly perfect pieces and they tend to stick with proven authors. They want excellent grammar, unless the storyline requires otherwise. Publishers also look for excellent punctuation and your knowledge of solid writing rules and that you know for every rule there is an exception.
Having family members read and critique is not sufficient, since too often they tell you how wonderful your work is when they either don't really believe it or have no idea what is good or bad.
One of the primary items needed by any writer is a tough skin to appreciate critiques without being personally hurt by them.

Hi momtrying2makeit, I do agree with hapsicordable1. I believe writing is a natural skill. All training courses will just try to enhance your already hidden skill. So why not do it yourself. You do firmly believe that you've got the skill. So why not try to enhance it yourself. As others have said, just try reading books. If you want to develop excellent vocabulary, I would suggest you 18th century literature novels. Excellent language it'll be. Parallel to reading, just start practicing your writing by writing small articles to the local magazines and websites like mylot and rediff. When it comes out, you might feel more confident about your writing. So just try these out.
Wish you good luck!!!

Hmmm... Sorry, I don't really know that. Actually, I just wrote a text and I will post it on Yahoo Answer and ask "Is it right or wrong?" That's how I know my text is wrong or not. Usually, I improve my writing skill with blogging and Mylotting!
