Do you believe in the power of the mind? Can we heal ourselves of all illness?

I guess the human race has been around long enough now to know that something is going on even though we may not be able to explain clearly what that is! I read a book once and I don't remember the title, perhaps you can remind me, but the author was Deepak Chopra, I think that's right! Anyway, he mentioned that we could use our minds for other things other than just negative chit chatter! He mentioned that through focus and training we could slowly heal ourselves relying on the mind alone! I'm definitely on the same wave length in that I am a positive thinker! Do you think there is any truth to this concept or idea? There are so many miracles that cannot be explained, people recovering from terminal illnesses and the like. What are your views on this? Have you actually been in a situation whereby you were focused internally and were working on healing yourself? I guess this is based on the 'Mind over Matter' idea! Your thoughts are supposed to be very powerful and so you should direct them in the direction you want to go! Thankfully I have never been in a position whereby I could test this theory! I know this might sound quite deep but all the same, I would be interested in your thoughts. Andrew

there are so many things that human being can not handle and explain. the power of mind is a centries-old subject, and now most of those studies are in the frame of psychology.in most traditional medicines, the power of mind is a usual assistance to the healing.i do think sometimes the mind takes an important part in healing ourselves, but not all illness.

There are lots of people that have had many different experiences in relation to this! I think it's nice when you hear a story about someone being healed from some major disease! This gives hope to many people and I'm convinced that there's something going on that we still don't fully understand. I like the idea of mind having power over matter and I always try to maintain a positive outlook on life now! Andrew

I believe we do have that power in our own minds. Look at the experts of meditation: Many of the people in India have been doing this for thousands of years. Our brains are so incredibly powerful and we don't even realize it. Most of us, though, don't have the discipline to hone this part of our mental processes. I wish I did because I would definitely be doing it myself.

I think we humans have taken a wrong turn somewhere along the line. Yes, I believe we are meant to be developing the powers of our mind (we only use about 10% of our intelligence, did you know that) but instead we have become lazy and materialistic. Maximum gratification with minimal effort seems to be the goal rather than mental pursuits guided by our (practically non-existent )spirituality.
It's we who are making ourselves ill and by now we should have figured that out...it's a no brainer. And yes, we can heal ourselves by stopping the things we do wrong and doing right...eating, sleeping, living right...treating others well and helping them to do what's right. We need to think right...think abundance, peace, tranquillity, joy, love, caring and so on.

Yes, I definitely like the sound of that! I heard that somewhere that we only use ten per cent of our brains currently! That's quite surprising and I would love to learn how to use the other ninty per cent! I'm all in favour of love, peace, tranquillity, joy love and everything else that is nice. I like to describe myself now as a positive thinker! At one time I used to be a negative thinker and it seemed as though there was no end to my disatisfaction! Things are different now I'm very pleased to say! Andrew

Have you ever heard that prayers are answered? and why are they answered?
Its the amazing power of human mind that when one prays and prays it results in registering in the subconscious mind.
I am a firm believer of this.
e.g. I dream of a dream house with a picture in my bedroom and it turned out to reality.I have written goals that keep me reminding and i often open my copy and refer back to it.
The capabilities of human mind are beyond explanations.

I really like the sound of that! I pray on a daily basis myself and it gives me tremendous comfort. I would like to utilise this skill in order to better my life and obtain goals etc. I do try and remain positive all the time now and I've noticed that I do feel much happier and content inside. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Andrew

Yes. i do believe we humans have a power that can cure ourselves of all illness, the human mind is the most powerful entity that exists in the world it is what makes us all humans different in every way.
The mind Influnces us in different ways. We control the mind to believe what it want's to believe.
I had never personally had an illness but in one occasion i thought i had the swine flu but that turned out to be an mistake on my part.....
The mind is a powerful tool what you believe can determine how you feel.

Throughout this discussion I am growing to love my mind more and more! Everyone's experiences are so different but one thing they have in common is that they are all positive. I love being positive now and I feel so much happier as a result. I think it's only a matter of time before we eventually understand the workings of the mind completely. I think I'm going to try and return to the practise of sitting in silence! I've heard this is a great tool in terms of improving concentration and focusing on your inner self! Well, it's a very interesting idea. Andrew

Yes, I've heard about the power of belief. I'm trying to increase the strength of my beliefs on a daily basis. I'm a positive thinker as a rule and I'm glad that I'm like this now as I used to focus on all things negative and that wasn't getting me anywhere. Still, it's only a matter of time before we reach a full understanding of the mind I think. Andrew

Great topic! I believe that our mind, as powerful an organ that it is, is cabable of achieving the unexplainable. However, sometimes what seem to be "unexplainable" is really the obvious. We are what we think and many people are unaware of the fact that our thoughts and perceptions have a great affect on our lives. There are many cases where people have suffered from what was initial diagnosed as a terminal disease, but have turned around beating all odds because they refused to grant the disease its victory and those who have met their demise convincing themselves' that "this is it for me." Positive outcomes reflect on positive thoughts and vice versa. I have never read Chopra's book, but I am definitely going to look into it. I strongly agree with his concept and appreciate you sharing the topic.

I'm glad I created this topic as I'm learning a lot not only from yourself but other My Lotters contributing to this discussion as well. There must be a ton of information on the Internet concerning this very subject. I am positive as a rule and it's quite a dramatic change as I used to linger in all things negative! I'm glad that I have changed my outlook on life. I guess as the years pass we will all learn more and more about the benefits of positive thinking. Andrew

i always believe that what your mind can conceive, your body can achieve. although we cant really avoid some to be skeptic at time because there is no scientific explaination in all this. actually not only on self healing but in fulfilling what you always dream of as well. say for example those who came from nothing and with the help of mindsetting that they will become successful and rich. the next thing you'll know is that theyve done it and already giving inspiration to others. i think power of mind has always something to do with it, we just cant explain how it has happened. happy mylotting andrewfreyne

I'm sure I've heard that before somewhere! I think Antony Robbins, American life coach, he mentions that as well in one of his seminars! I'm sure there are many things that we still don't understand about how the mind works. I love the fact that being positive seems to help in a big way. I always try to remain positive now about different areas of my life. Who knows where we will end up in relation to utilising the power of our minds! Andrew

The mind is a very powerful tool which God has given to man. Next to God Man is the creator and by using his mind he can achieve anything.Leonardo da Vinci,Newton, Edison, Einstein used the mind to get their achievements and discoveries.Healers use the power of the mind to heal others and which we call as miracles. Actually in nature there is no such thing as a miracle. Everything exists here only thing is we are not aware of them.these great scientists applied their mind and brought forth their discoveries.Man uses just a very negligible percentage of his mind. If he uses even 50% of it he can create wonders.Everything starts with the mind as a thought which when constantly attended to brings about circumstances which favour action to bring the idea into a concrete form.If will power is used strongly then even the most difficult task can be accomplished with consumate ease. All one needs is full concentration, focus and a strong and positive attitude and the determination to acheve the goal. Then nothing is impossible. In 1981 i was asked by my boss whether i would be interested in going to work in our Gulf based office.I said yes but i had to wait for 2 more years before i could go. In the meantime i dwelt on that thought constantly day and night and kept thinking and talking about it to my colleagues.I saw a few people being sent there ahead of me but i never gave up the hope and still focussed on that though constantly. I kept on visualising myself there and finaly the day came when i went there.

It sounds like you have had quite a few positive experiences in relation to this. Yes, I really like the sound of that and I would love to learn how to use the full extent of my mind. I am positive as a general rule although there are times I must admit when it can be quite hard. Those masters that you mentioned, Edison, Einstein, Newton etc, I have a profound respect for what they achieved in their life times! I think by being positive you feel far happier as a rule and I have certainly noticed this. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for the interesting discussion.
Like you said, there are so many situations we can't explain yet, there are so many ills we cant heal yet and the like. I ever had a thought, It's so easy for me to make a worldwide difficulty, for instance, I have a problem of stammering maybe I got the heredity genes from my father. That is still a difficulty for the world.: )
And some years ago, I got a depression, I cant get out of that years, it is painful, aha? the second difficulty I made to the world.
So, what I want to express, keep positive, be a positive thinker, looking forward the miracle!

Yes, being a positive thinker helps a lot I think. I used to be a negative thinker and I guess it wasn't getting me anywhere and actually, this was keeping me at my lowest ebb all the time. I used to suffer from depression as well but things have really changed for me now. I try to remain positive day in day out and I'm really looking forward to some big positive changes in my life. I do see things this way. I have always been a positive person and try to direct my thoughts to positive energy. I think if you go threw life with negative thoughts it certainly can cause you problems with not only relationships but also with health. I have lived over half my life with a very negative person and learned early on in my marriage i dont want to be like that so ive focused on staying in a positive state of mind. I do believe if one stays posivite way of thinking you can over come challenges. If you have a im going to feel sorry for myself and negative attitude you will have hard life. I think along these lines that meditation can help us connect with that inner spirit way of thinking to help bring peace in our lives so this is one of my new years goals is to learn more about it this year. I have found a great partner online that has helped me in learning how to turn some of this negative energy in my life into positives so it dont effect me as much.

I used to practise regular meditation but I found it quite difficult to maintain. Still, I may return to this practise. I like some of those meditation tapes whereby you can don some headphones, close your eyes and be taken away into oblivion! I may return to that practise. Overall I am a positive person now but I struggled to leave the negative stuff behind. I think that it's taken quite a few positive thinking books to change my thinking! Anyway, thanks for sharing your own experiences. Andrew

Yes indeed, it is true Andrew. I am happy to see such kind of discussion on mylot where I am a new comer. Reading Deepak Chopra and many others on this field, I strongly belive in the capacity of mind. We have tremendous psychic power within us only that we don't realize and make use of it. Our mind capacity is like an iceberg on the Ocean which we know very little of it and we did not really know the depth of it. Positive affirmation, positive thinking make a big differece in Us. In the book 'Think and grow rich' also the authour emphsize this method. So as to in the field of medicine. Have you heard about Pranic Healing and many other alternative healing also focus this aspect. Yoga, Mantra, Prayers, Recitation all these help us to focus our concentration and to get good result out of this Psychic power. In that line you can go in side with 'mind over matter' concept.
In my own expereince by concentration I Healed myself and even others to the certain extension. Due to my involvement with so many other occupation these days I don't get concentration well. But for sure if one is consist and can concentrate well he can heal himself and others even distant healing is possible. Prayers and Mantras bring us to this concentration and miracles happen as a result.
My mind can infuence other people also. I personally tried so many times and it was very successful. Good topic to discuss

I'm glad you like it! Thanks! Also, a big welcome to My Lot and its community. I will search for that book 'Think and Grow Rich' as I would love to read that. I've never heard of Pranic Healing though. I do like prayer however and practise this on a daily basis. I used to meditate as well but gave up on this as I was struggling with it. I think I will return to those meditation tapes though that seem to help you thought the meditation process. I hope that I learn many more things in relation to this concept now and in the future. Yes, we can. There are so many ways to help get rid of any sickness if is not too late. If someone watch comedies for 30 days, can lower his blood pressure and feel better. Petting dogs and cats has the same impact.
Placebo response proves the concept. Up to 1/3rd of patients given a placebo may respond with a reduction in symptoms, depending on the condition.

Even as we can kill ourselves by thinking, we can heal ourselves with thought. I don't believe (for one minute) that you have never healed yourself using mind over matter. Everyone, at sometime in their lives, has had the common flue, and world-wide, thousands die of it every year. If you have Survived the flue, you have Healed Yourself. Think of the diseases each of us have endured, fought, and conquered, over the years of our lives, and realize that everyone has caused miracles to happen, using Mind over Matter!

Hi Andrew,
I am more a reality person. I still believe that if you have some illness, you need to go see a doctor, take some medicine. But in the same time, i won't deny that the power of your mind helps you heal the illness, like alwasy think postive, be happy, smiling, those helps, but i won't think that's the key point. Technology still the major to reply on.Thanks for the interesting topic!

Yes, I also believe that the doctors and others working in the medical field should be available to us! I think these people are miracle workers and it's nice to have them around. I also like to maintain a positive, healthy attitude! Once upon a time things used to be very different! I always used to live in a negative frame of mind and it wasn't doing my wellbeing much good! There are so many books on this subject and I have only read a few of them but I know that they are full of inspiration and hope for everyone! Andrew

Hi Andrew
I do believe in affirmations. That is what I think your talking about. I have read in several different places that you can make your self feel better. Like you live with constant pain, if you keep telling the brain on a daily basis that the pain is not that bad, it will eventally get to where it doesn't seem to be as bad.
Good discussion and have a good day.

Hi rose, yes, I'm referring to affirmations and I have a strong belief in them. I really like this idea though and I guess we are still in the learning process as regards how it can help us. I think all those self-help books share the same message and that is, it's important to always maintain a positive attitude regardless of what is going on around us. Andrew

Yes i believe in the power of the mind. In fact scientist even claim that humans are not yet fully utilizing the brains power and that we only use a few percent of what our brains are capable of doing. I think there will come a time when we can communicate with just our thoughts, heal ourselves and many more. at the moment, there are games that can let you play with just your mind by attaching gadgets to your brain. If machines can catch our brain waves then there must be away for us to develop it so that we can emit more powerful brain waves without the need to use machines.

Yes, I've heard something about that in the past! I think it was mentioned that we were only using something like ten per cent of our brain! I love technology myself and I'm excited about what the future has in store in terms of bettering our selves! Andrew

I believe that our mind plays a big role in our health. Our body reacts what our mind tell. If I think that my body is sick, then our body would fell sick. Miracles I think is a result of faith on what our heart believes in. Its a result of a greater intervention over us. But the most important is that we also need to take actions on whatever we think off. I cannot simply say that my sickness will go away but still eating banned foods or living in a dangerous life style.

Yes, I believe that! It's good if we have a strong mind and focus on what we want to experience in our lives whether it be good health or prosperity in other areas! I also think that action is important as it works alongside thoughts going on in the mind! Andrew
