Don't you just hate it, you know you are catching cold you do all the right things to fight it, but still are sore and snotty. I am staying away from everyone until I beat this thing, usually I can stop it but each time I get this way I just know I'm not going to stop it. What do you do to stop a cold? Chicken soup?

I don’t know of you can get rid of a cold because once you have one it has to take its course. I am low in iron and my doctor has recommended I take iron supplements ; to aid their absorption I need to take over 1000mg of vitamin c and I must say I don’t get as many colds since I have increased my vitamin C. I do hope you get over your cold soon, it is miserable to have to go about your daily activities while feeling terrible!

Hiya savypat,
If I have got a really heavy cold I usually do all the things that need to be done first if I can in the House. Then I usually make a Red Tea with a drop of Honey make the infusion pretty strong take that after I´ve finished and ready to go out to the shops.
This usually has an effect for a few hours enabling me to go out come back make the Meal and then have a long rest if I can. If it still has´nt gone I make another one and repeat the same process usually wards the Cold off stops it getting a real grip.

Echinacea and zinc! At the first sign of a cold, if you take echinacea and zinc, which come in lozenge form, your cold will be cut short. You'll still feel miserable for awhile but not nearly as long as you would without this combination.
There is one lozenge on the market that is echinacea, zinc and vitamin C combined. I keep them handy, always, because I despise colds. They're such a nuisance!
Oh, for the icky nose part, Puffs Plus tissues are AWESOME! If you get a particularly runny nose, you'll love the lotion in Puffs Plus. They really do help to keep you from being mistaken for Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer!
I've become rather an expert on colds because, as soon as I had kids in school, I would catch every cold around. If there was one tiny cold germ within miles, I'd manage to trip over it and get sick. I experimented with different tissues, different cough remedies and different herbal remedies. What I've mentioned here is what I learned are the best, for me anyway.
If you get a cough, I would suggest trying Zycam cough spray. I used to get bronchitis every winter. Nothing worked except codeine cough medicine prescribed by the doctor. One time, the doctor was unavailable so I went looking through the pharmacy to see what looked good. Oh, I tried the Robitussin and all those, and they did help but nothing completely stopped my cough until I tried Zycam cough spray. You spray it in your mouth, toward your throat. It stopped my cough right away.
It even tastes good! LOL
I hope you feel better FAST! Colds can be so miserable. Oh, about chicken soup, yes, that will help you to feel better, although I doubt it'll cut the cold short. I'm all for shaving a few days off of any cold if I can.

I feel so sorry for you ,we have all had rotten colds since christmas, sore throat, runny nose.headaches.We all eat lots of fruit and veg drink fluids and take exercise. They do say exercise helps with the immune system. We do all the right things and we still get poorly,it does not feel right does it.I have been taking a hot lemon cold remedy from the supermarket which works at keeping the symtoms at bay and helps me get on with normal life, although I do get really tired.I slept a lot and drank plenty of water and tea.My appetite was poor but I forced down fruit and managed to eat a proper dinner every evening.I mainly snacked as I also felt sick.I do hope you feel better soon and take care of yourself,I stayed away from everyone and like I say rested and slepted.

Drinking a mixture of honey water and cinnamon powder is one well-known home remedy for colds. Taste isn't too great but very effective. Check out: http://www.benefits-of-honey.com/honey-and-cinnamon.html

For cold and flu there is a wonderful plant I've tested on myself and my family for several years. It's called Echinacea and products made of its extract help the immune system especially fighting against diseases of the respiratory tract. Taken for at least one month before cold season as a preventive method or even in the course of the disease to stop or alleviate the symptoms. Chicken soup is all right as well as any warm drink as they cleanse the throat of viruses throwing them in the stomach where they no longer live. It's better in any case to consult a specialist as well to prevent complications generally caused by simultaneous infections with bacteria.

I think it is useless to stop a cold, just keep warm and don't make the situation worse.
Usually it takes me one week to get away from a cold,i do take some medicine, but no use, just wait till it's end.
Some friends like go to hospital and take transfusion, but still need one week time to stop sore and snotty.
More exercise ,body building, and of course chicken soup, may make you away from a cold.

I'd like to share to you my discovery: That used to be my problem when I was young. Cold, runny nose, and sometimes clogged nose. My sinuses were damaged because of that. By you know what? When I grew up and learned to sip coffee, I found out that caffeine is good in combating colds. A shot of coffee or caffeine can dramatically increase or stimulate your immune cells thereby fighting off the cold virus. It works for me. You can try it too!

I usually try to get a lot of garlic (fresh if possible) into my soups....chicken soup is good but whatever soup feels good to you will work too. I sometimes get some 'hot and sour' soup from the local Chinese resturant and find it is real soothing and healing too.
Also what works for me aside from the garlic and soup is Vitamin C...I like EmergenC...which comes in packets of 1,000 mgs. and you mix with water. Vitamin C cannot hurt you, if you get more than you need, your body will flush it out.
I hope you get to feeling better soon....
Have a restful, healing weekend!

At the first sign that I am catching a cold, I will usually take a mass dose of vitamin C and eat a clover of fresh raw garlic. I also put food-grade hydrogen peroxide in my ears. If I do these things at the first sign that I am catching a cold, it will stop it. But if I am out and about and can't do this and the cold takes a good hold, then it is too late. Nothing will stop it then as it has to stop on its own. - Derek

Sorry to hear about this. I do sympathise. Chicken soup is good, and other hearty soups. And I swear by Night Nurse which is available over the counter here in the UK. It usually gets me a healing good night's sleep. I never take it more than four nights running though. You can get addicted such things.

Have you heard the saying "If you take medicine to fight with the cold, you will be cured in a week. If you don't, you will be cured in 7days"
I think that is what best describes the cold treatment. It doesn't matter what you do, you have to wait until it passes. My biggest regret in life is that I always catch colds when I have a day or a week off. I would never catch a cold when I have work to do. it is annoying, because everyone around you are sick and when you can finally take a break from everything, you get sick
I wish you all the best of health :)

It's normal. Everyone have chance to catch cold, just take it easy. I think hot water, hot soup or noodle can do some help for this problem.
Hope you will be better soon!
