Is your cat bored?

We have two inside cats. One has been urinating outside the cat litter box. I was just reading a email I get from a website about cats. It says that if your indoor cats are bored they may act agressively, meow or cry, sleep alot, eat more or less and urinate outside the box. The article says that you can do several things to aliviate this problem. Be sure your cat has a wide selection of toys, a place where they can see out a window, a place in the sun, and places where they can climb. Is your cat bored? What do you do to keep the animal entertained?

Hey celtic! I have one cat named Luna (Lunatic)lol that is constantly whining and I have no idea what he wants from me! I know I gave him a girls name, Luna means moon in Spanish, but he couldn't possibly know that and be angry about that, could he? He just doesn't act happy unless I am petting his head or doing whatever he wants me to do! His brother Star is such a sweet boy! He is such a lovey dovey cat! But, Luna will fight with him, hiss, I swear he is part snake! He is either disappearing for hours on end and when he comes out he has to have my attention! And I just can't figure him out! I have never had a cat like him before and I've had 3 others before him! So, I have no idea how to respond to this!

Cats don't care what you call them- just so you call them. Lol Yes, I remember when I had a siamese. They were very vocal.

Hi Opal, Does he have any Siamese or exotic breed in him.. those kinds of cats are talkers.. My Siamese and her kids, were quite vocal. They are also more dog like and tend to follow you around everywhere.

I do not think that is why my cat relieves himself other than the box. I think no one but me scoops the litter trays. My cats bat at each other, go in and out, and play with anything that is laying anywhere. Their favorite passtime is to sit on me, and I am never home. That will change for the next few days, though, cause I am having foot surgery.

Sounds like they have behavioral problems from being alone alot. Atleast they have eachother and aren't alone. I am very against that! The other person who responded to this and dislikes cats. That is sad for they are very wonderful animals.

They could be bored, hopefully it's not a medical problem. I found the solution to my cat's problem on planeturine.com but as far as the boredom issue, my cats have toys, they have each other (and chase each other around a lot) and the children play with them a lot...

They definitely need the interaction. Thanks for the input.

It seems like you don't have to do much to get a cat not to be bored. Our cat is not bored as she has a place to lay in the sun, and during the day if someone is here and on the computer, we open the blinds and she'll come look out. She does meow quite a bit from time to time, but we do pet her, and I think it's more that she's saying "ahem, MEOW pet me durnit MEOW" lol. Well In any case, she also lays on our bed, and will come in in the morning to sleep with my husband while I'm getting ready to go to work.

I think if you have some thought for the animal and think what would you like then there isn't a problem supplying an animal with what they need. If a person is selfish and more of a narcissistic personality then they shouldn't have animals. Ya know what I mean?

When my boyfriend started a new job last year I was scared that my cat would be bored all alone in the house for most of the day. I found out that there was a pet daycare nearby, so I went to visit it on a Saturday afternoon. Well, the dogs looked quite happy. They were allowed to roam around in a closed-off area and were taken on walks several times a day. But the cats ... they were kept in their cages all day long!!! I asked the girl working there if they ever let the cats roam around, she said that if there's more then one employee working they did, but they couldn't do it when there was only one working. She checked the schedule to see when there would me more then one employee ... and it was only two days a week and only for a few hours. Long story short, my boyfriend didn't stay at his new job for long, so he was home with the cat during the day. And a few months later we got a second cat, so now we don't feel so bad about the cats being home alone because at least they can keep each other company.

I think the animal day care is a great idea. I think the cats and the dogs should be out for atleast awhile. Sad about that. Glad you got your cat a friend. Sad when animals are alone I think.

Hey, celticeagle! I have one wonderful cat at home. He is relatively small - only 1 year. Just two weeks ago he was a kitten, now strong ''man'' I'm sure he's not bored. We are playing together every day. When my family is out of home and my cat is alone, he always know what to do - he plays with toy-mouses , jumpballs and much more... Have a nice day, mate!

You know, I hope not.. they have enough dang playmates... I do have some bullies.. but I kind of understand the psychology behind their actions.. And they only bully a particular cat or two, but the like playing with the kittens, so they aren't all bad. They have windows they can look out, a 8 foot cat condo/skycraper.. to play on. They chase each other.. they get "groomed" by my dog K'Ehleyr.. I don't think she does a great job.. she uses to much "mousse"(saliva) in their hair and they all look like punk rockers when she's done. BUT, they keep going back to her so they must like it.. AND just today I saw one of the kittens returning the favor and was licking K'Ehleyr's face, then that rough tongue must have gotten to be too much because she moved her head. Funny how she doesn't let a cat walk away from her though.. She follows them through the house nibbling on them.. like grooming a monkey! I buy a few toys here and there.. but mostly we make do with stuff around the house. Like the the little tabs you pull off the milk jugs.. throw that on the floor and they play with it until it gets lost under the stove or the fridge. :-)

I don't have a cat anymore but I have read that animals will act out when they are bored. Birds will pick their feathers out if they are bored or lonely. I think that keeping animals occupied is real important. I have to keep my little dogs toys and chews or they will chew up other stuff. Usually something that has my scent on it..lol.

I don't think my cats are board as much as one of them is attention-seaking. Its not like he doesn't get any, but he does appear to get jelious if another one of our cats climbs up on George's lap. Or, if in his opinion, the litter box isn't clean enough or something. He rarely uses it. We put towls down to cover the area, but I don't know how long it's going to last. Bottom line.... we have to get rid of him. So anyone interested please friend me. If you live in the Daytona area, that would be great.

I see. That is too bad. We got rid of about twelve cats the end of the Summer and have two left. One urinated out of the litter box on occasion and we started spraying him when he did. He doesn't anymore. It does take devotion to have animals. Love and attention too!

My cat urinates everywhere during estrus. But I have plastic sheetings on my bed.So I don't worry at all. In order to keep it entertained,I give it table tennis and sewing thread.
