hi mylot friends,In my school days for calculation of mathes we are using logarithm books, instead of calculator,Calculators were not invented on that time i think or the calculator is highly priced i do not know the reason, for calculation of big numbers we are using logarithm books on those days that is in the year 1966,actually i does not know when the calculator is entered in the market in affordable prices, how many of you know about Logarithms

Hi Yugasini! I used log tables, and I also used log scale! Do you remember the scale, it was much easier to carry. But to be honest, I hated math. :) I really don't know how I got this far. :) Well, not actually hated it. I understood it, but was simply too lazy to revise it. :) If I went to school at this stage with all my maturity, may be I would fare better. :) Happy New Year to you and your family. :)

hi vandana madam, thanks for the response/comment,now you can go to school as a teacher, not a student,i live maths but only general maths ,i does know the composite maths and i have not understand the composite maths exceptionally the triganamitry,i does not know about the log scale, how it looks like? i think i have already sent you and your family the new year wishes,i have to send Sankranti greeting to you and your family on or before 13th Jan,2010,have a nice day Note:this is the 5th time i am at Hyderabad,i will stay here up to 10/01/10

Hi Yugasini thanks for the greetings. Wish you and your family a very happy and prosperous new year. I am sure all your wishes will be fulfilled after this Sankranthi. Just remain optimistic. Well log scale is similar to some engineering scales actually. :) I am not very good at describing, but there is a mobile part that can be run across. :) Since you know Clark's tables, you dont need to know this one. :) Anyway, now computers are there. You dont need anything. :) I was good in trignometry, a bit in algebra and geometry as well. But as I said, I was lazy. :) That is the reason I am here today. :)

hi xmlukax, thanks for the response/comment,it is amazing to me that you have used the logarithm books for calculation purpose, now a days nobody is using the same, mostly people are using calculators,i think for education purpose suggested you to use logarithm books in last year,a good experience, have a nice day

I know what they are, but I don't use them. I haven't done any algebra or geometry or anything beyond basic math since I left school.

hi dawnald, thanks for the response/comment,i am also not using the same now, there is no necessary to use the logarithm books at present, when the calculators available less than the price of the logarithm books, and it is once again we have add the sums for long equations, have a nice day

Hi Yugasini. We did not use calculators when I was in school, either. We memorized math tables and formulas and solved problems using those things on paper with a pencil. We did not have logarithm books, either, so I am not familiar with them. This, too, was in the 1960s. Karen

hi karen madam, thanks for the response/comment,it is difficulty to memorize all the maths tables and other formulas,so you are very clever from young age onwards,my school studies begin from 1960 or 1961 and ended at 1968,i have completed 12th class,so mostly we are nearly in same age, have a nice day

wow that is really nice. You know what, I missed that topic in school. I don't know where it went...lol One thing is for sure,it didn't reach my head.lolz.. I can't even remember if it had been a part of our lesson in school. Well, it is not too late to learn new things. I may check on that and see how to compute using Logarithms. Happy Lotting!

hi danitykane, i think if you are young,i have not seen your profile to calculate your age,if you are young, now the people are using fast things like calculators and computers for computing the sum,in my school days,we are using logarithms to calculate the big sums, almost i have also forgotten all about logarithms, today why it got in my mind for a discussion, you may find it big book stores, have a nice day

A logarithms is basically the inverse of an exponential. Let's use a simple example. We all know that 3 square is 9 ,right As in 3^2 = 9 Suppose you didn't know that and needed to find that what exponent 3 needs to get 9 in other words 3^x=9 we want to find out what x is Logarithmic will do this for us.All you need to do is take the log of 9 to base 3 and it will give you the answer Log (3)9=2 The 3 in bracket should written in little font but that's not an option here. That's basically all there is to it.There are few laws which describe hoe they work, but they'll come in practice. To get a log on your calculator, just make sure you know the change-of base law. Most Calculator don't let you specify the base of logarithm, so use the law log(a)9/log(a)3=log(3)9 it doesn't matter what (a) is,so long as it is the same The log button in your calculator is log(10)

hi knkshrt, thanks for the response/comment,as layman in the subject of English and mathes,i have not understand the exponents, etc etc, really i appreciate about your subject knowledge in maths,i am general maths student when i am going to school, once again thanks for the response, have a nice day

I have never heard of such a thing. It does sound very interesting. Maybe it wasn't in use in the U.S. I have no idea. Tell me more about it. Do you have the right spelling? Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Hi yugasini garu Even I use to calculate the maths with the help of logarithm book only while studying in the school. But since I do not like that subject, I do not bother to remember them. Now that so many years have passed, I totally forgot about it anyway

hi vathsala, thanks for the response/comment,so you have also used the logarithm book for calculate the sums ,now i have also not remembered how to see the logarithm books for calculate big equations, now there is no need to buy logarithm books, for that rate or below the rate,we can purchase the calculator, have a nice day
