I've done that many times, and to my observation, I always get consumed with what I'm reading that I tend to forget about the music anymore. Sometimes, when the music is something that really makes me groove, it distracts me, shifting my attention to the music. :) It's either the book or the music that I concentrate upon, never both.

I'd like to answer the question of shanrox... Yes, you can. But you can only do it with low music volume.. usually as background music while reading. If you make the volume louder, you will get distracted in your reading. About what mjcookie has said, I usually experience that too, getting distracted and eventually shifted to the groovy music. But it is always possible to listen to music and at the same time read a book. You just have to make the other one greater than the other one, like controlling the volume of the music.

I do all the time. Just like driving or exercising with music playing. Music helps shut everything else out except the task at hand, be it reading, driving, or working out.

Yes I have done this many times. It is great fun to have my favourite music playing in the background and to read a book. Of course then I keep the volume of music low so that I can concentrate on my book. I love reading just as much as I love to listen to music and I can do both at a time. Happy reading to you and enjoy listening to your favourite music!!

WHen I read a book I usually go to the library or a quiet coffee shops...i find it difficult to concentrate on a noisy environment when i'm reading. So definitely when I listen to music and read a book at the same time, then it will end up that I won't be able to understand what i'm reading. When i was still a student, I found out that when I study and read a book with my ipod on...my exam scores aren't that high. Maybe because the concentration is not there. So everytime I read books I turn on any kind of music or noise and just read. In that way I get to understand my reading in which I may learn a few important things. Nice topic you started here shanrox. happy mylotting.

I tend to get lost in the music and start thinking about hopes and dreams or what happened today. I use music to relax and also to think. I can't read a book and concentrate on what I'm reading if I'm listening to music. I can have music or television on while I'm on the computer because I use it more as background noise and if anything interesting happens, I can concentrate on either/or.

Usually I don't listen to music while reading if I have to be very concentrated on what I am reading, especially professional reading, but if it is some casual reading, then there is no problem with the music on.

No, I cannot read and listen to music at the same time. I need to concentrate what I am reading. I can listen to music when I am surfing or playing games on the internet, or even when I am working. Especially when I am working, when I listen to music, I won't fall asleep, haha :)

I find it very difficult to read a book and listen to music at the same time. I have to concentrate on either one or the other. However, I can surf the net and have the television on, as I have at present. I'm on the comp and hubby is watching the telly that I have my back to. If something interesting comes on I'll go and watch it with him. Years ago I used to read books in bed before falling asleep but didn't have any music on.
