Why is it called plastic surgery?

Hi, I was reading something recently about plastic surgery and was talking about it. During the conversation, we were always saying surgery and then after a while, I said "plastic surgery". I guess the term felt strange to my friend especially with the word plastic and what surgery is generally about, that is treating an internal organ that is ailing. She then asked me by the way, why is it called plastic surgery? And I was like beats me. So I would like to know why is it called plastic surgery?
