Have you ever mistaken something for some food that you actually ate it?

I remember when my mom told me about my aunt who gulped in from a bottle of Sprite only to find out that it was actually kerosene that she just drank. Good thing she wasn't poisoned.
Just last week I saw a bag of chocolate tablets. They looked and smelled really yummy so I took a bite, only to spit it afterwards because they were really bitter. It was like eating coffee beans. I thought they were ready-to-eat.
Has a similar situation happened to you? I wanna know about them.=)

when I was 5 years old, I always take anything on the floor of what was either a bitter taste and I throw it. I though there was chocolate and I tried to eat it ... uh, unfortunately it was not chocolate. Once I remember the incident I became disgusted with brown food.

One day I was eating a honey bun in my bed. It was the one with the white icing. Some of the icing fell off. I picked up a pieces of white stuff that looked like the icing and put in in my mouth. One piece was icing. The other piece was a piece of the solid deodorant that I used. I already knew what what shower fresh smelled like. Now I know how it tastes.

Well this really is not food but it was something I injested thinking it was something else. When I was about 17 years old I came home from school and I had a really bad painful cough. My mom was not home at the time so I went searching for cough medicine myself. I grabbed a bottle of cough syrup and took a huge tablespoon full, then my throat and lips started to burn, my mom came home right after that and I told her the cough syrup was burning me. She told me show her what I had tacken, it turned out to be liquid linament which is a liquid form of Ben Gay or muscle rub. We had to call poison control and I had to drink milk and soak my burning lips in a bowl of milk for about a half hour. But I was lucky that it was only that bad.

I haven't experienced anything similar to taking in an ointment or something like that. That could have felt really hot on the lips! I am imagining you on that bowl of milk for HALF AN HOUR. LOL. That's awkward. And I wonder how that heals the burning sensation. Yeah, good thing you weren't poisoned very badly.

I didn't have similar situations, but I my acquaintance mistake once rabbits excrement for berries. It was in her childhood, so you can say that kids may easily mistake some things like that.

one day while rushing to work my aunt asked me to eat lunch as she already prepared for me .. there among the served food, this friend of my aunt has placed a bowl of something .. i put it and could not swallow so i trew it away as it tasted yucky ..
as i was staying in people house i reserved my comments .. evening when i returned home .. this woman was bragging about her dish to my uncle who also just returned home .. it was a deep fried crunchy food .. then she described that she "marinated shreded chicken with egg yolk and some additional herbs" all day
