Hello Everyone! I would like the serious advice of all the mylot advisers. I live in New York City where rent is astronomical! It is really hard to find a place in New York even when you're working and have money. I think it is the absolutely worst place in the country for renting a place. The amount of rent you pay is almost never equal to what you get. But the real question I want to ask is "How can you rent an apartment without money?" I know there are a lot of resourceful people out there and I sincerely want to know what ideals you have.

I really don't think you could rent an apartment without money unless you qualify for welfare and even then, I'm not sure they would pay full rent. Some cities have programs that will help you with a deposit to get into a place if that is the problem. I think you have to pay it back but at least you wouldn't have to come up with it all at once. Some landlords may be willing to work with you on paying the deposit a little at a time but you'd still have to come up with the rent money each month. Another thought...there are people who rent out rooms which are much cheaper than paying for an apartment. Thing is that you'd have to share a bathroom, kitchen and living room with others.

Renting rooms is becoming very popular in New York. Renting a room cost almost the same as an apartment. But there may be some that rent them for a cheaper price. I will keep in mind about the possibility of programs.

I suppose something you could do is get a roommate or two, and share the difference. If you're used to living alone, this could be a bit of a challenge, but it could help get yourself into a home of some kind.

That is helpful advice. A roommate would help to cut down expenses. Plus you would have company and support. I appreciate your response!
