got a question for the mylot fanatics out here... how do you choose wunder what interest would you put your discussion to? i mean, if it is about mylot, then the decision is simple and choosing mylot as the topic interest is cut and dried.
however, let's say your discussion is about a restaurant that you know is located specifically in your country of origin. do you put that discussion under 'eating' or let's say in my case 'philippines'. i just want to get everyone's thoughts on how they choose under which interest they place their discussion to. do you follow a certain criteria or do you just go with your gut feel? did you ever thought for a second how the interest you choose to place your discussion into affects the numebr of responses it will get?
want to get everyone's thoughts on this one. please feel free to chime in.
and remember, you're not sharp unless you're scott sharp!!!
cheers!!!

I just figure was basic area and If I can't find that (since 'interests' is having trouble right now) then I to 'questions and answers' or something even more basic than that. I hope the 'interests' bar is fixed soon so I can get more interests into my profile. I think that would eliviate alot of problems.

hi celticeagle!
didn't know that the interest bar had troubles before, not until you mentioned it here. anyway, that seems to be a good ploy with what you are doing. i would assume that keeping it simple and in general interests should put the topics that i put up within the 'radar' of most of the mylotters.
cheers!!!

Hi Allen,
To be safe, i used to put my new discussion in the question and answer interest even if it is pertaining to a specific subject. of course i make it in a question form and many mylot members will be able to respond on. there were certain discussions that i feel is more appropriate for a particular interest then i put it in there. title means a lot. you have to create a catchy title--something that will create an impact and will tickle the curious minds of the readers to respond.

hi msfrancisco!
great idea there about making a catchy title. it certainly helps in getting more responses if you have an interesting title that will lure fellow mylotters into your discussions in the hopes that they will post a reply. i'll surely try to put this in practice from here on in to get more responses in my topics and basically just to liven up the mylot community.
cheers!!!

it's working with me...what catches my attention here are those with catchy titles and intriguing ones. aside from my regular notification from friends that i truly respond, i look for great titles of new or old members and give my response. so good luck. let's see if you will catch my attention with your discussion after this one hehehehehehehe!

Personally I think this will always be an issue. Trying to decide what catagory to put a discussion in is a big one for sure. A lot of times this will help to determine what type of input you will gain from it as well. But I am sure everyone in here deals with this one. It is just something you have to figure out for yourself and hope for the Best from there.

hi flagella!
thanks for the kind words. yes, i would imagine that this is an issue. my rule of thumb is that i try to put the discussion in the topic that it is most relevant to. for example, if i want to talk about a restaurant here in manila that serves great hamburgers, instead of putting it in the discusssions under 'eating' or 'hamburgers' or even 'fastfoods', i'll put it under 'philippines' hoping that my fellow pinoys and pinays answer in my discussion and make it an active one.
cheers!!!

Hi allen0187. I too sometimes wonder under what category I should put my discussion and as you say I go with my gut feeling or instinct. Only you would know what the content of the discussion is. However, if its a restaurant in the philippines I don't think you should put it under philippines. You should maybe put it under eating and drinking or food or something. In my case, if I can't decide, I put it under questions and answers which covers most anything. Have a good day allen.

hi suesan35!
funny you should point out this particular example as i use the same one in my earlier post and yes i given the same circumstances, i would put the discussion under philippines. it might be flawed but i sincerely think i would get the most number of responses by doing such. anyway, i don't follow any clear cut rule except for my gut feel and instinct. maybe n the future, if i'm faced with the same predicament, i'll try putting the discussion in another topic and see how it pans out.
cheers!!!

I had a similiar discussion post a few weeks ago when I had just started in Mylot and was curious as to the best discussion groups to put a topic in. As you have alot more posts than I do, I'm sure your familiar with the most popular. But I see your point, as not all discussions are appropriate for the most popular catagories just because they will get immediately seen more. If its a subject that is more specialized I would just try to find the group icon that best fits. For example if your talking about lunch or dinner you could use a food icon. Or a specific place, you could use an icon for that place or the general area. In the case of an specific restaurant I guess you could use a general restaurant icon or I am pretty sure you can add one of your own (but not positive) so long as its not a copyrighted image.

I don't place something in an interest with a mind on how many responses I might get. I place it in the category that is closest to the topic of the discussion.
