I don't know what make french fries so addictive but for me they're hardest food to resist. I think it's because potatoes are a common food the many peoples appreciate and french fries is a so good mode do eat this. The fact it's that me, my family, and all my frieds loves french fries and I believe that most of the peoples in the world can't resist to eat this.

you are right AmandaMBF,i too think it is the potato which makes it so hard to resist.Add to it the seasonings, you have a killer diet destroyer package on your hands!like they say, "anything good in this world is either immoral, illegal or fattening" and i am sure french fries rules the roost in the last category!

I'd say the taste, and the fact that they are carbohydrates, and carbohydrates can definitely be something a lot of people crave. I know that I crave bread and potatoes more than sweets and chocolate, always have. The thing is, carbohydrate are made the villain, when, per both of my college nutrition classes--your calorie consumption should actually be as much at 60% carbohydrates, unless you are low carb, of course--60% is if you are on a low fat diet and 50-55% if you have a moderate diet. Also, carbohydrate rich foods tend to be lower fat. Now, there are good and bad carbs, of course. But fries are not necessary a no-no all the time. There are ways you can't make healthier fries even. You can make them at home, and bake them instead of frying them in oil/grease. You could do that with the frozen variety, or even better, would be to slice potatoes you get at the store into strips, and then bake those, I have seen recipes online for doing just that, I don't think it's really that hard either. Another thing I have heard is that the best fries to have are the thicker cut ones, I think it's because the thinner ones from most fast food places end up losing most of the nutrients because they are so thin to start with!
I definitely can't say why you crave them, but I'd say that it's just something that you enjoy. The key is definitely to moderate your portions when eating fries, and be sure to track the calories you take in. I am definitely not saying that fries are health food.. Just saying that low carb followers would definitely say to avoid them at all costs, when reality is, low carb foods tend to have more fat in them, so loading up on meats and packaged low carb meals is probably worse for your health in the long run, than having some fries here and there. Carbohydrates are like fuel for your body, and actually, tend to fill you up quicker than other foods, just have to watch out with fries, because they are easy to enjoy too much, and sometimes that leads to eating faster than your body can tell you "enough"!
Most importantly, the best advice is probably moderation for anything, which can be hard, but deprivation only works for so long, then when you finally cave into your cravings, you will most likely overdo it. I'm no expert, but I have plenty of personal experience with this, and whenever I try to cut something out completely, it always backfires, and from what I have seen that is the case for most people.
But yes, carbs/fries can be addictive, if that's what you like... some people are addicted to chocolate, some meat, some bread, fries, etc... So I don't think that fries are necessarily addictive to everyone, but certainly to some people.
Sorry if this got way technical... I just thought I'd put the info out there. You may already know all of that, but I know some people just jump on certain trendy diets, not knowing much about how the body best functions when it is not getting the right nutrient distribution.

Ah, I have the same thing with french fries. I spent a full month without eating them and I got all cold turkey .
I guess when something's delicious is difficult to get over it, isn't it?
