It is very cold where I live at. I got sick with the Flu Virus on Christmas Day. It started with me feeling very weak like. I had a bad headache that was very irritating. I did not felt like doing anything on Christmas. I was so sick. On top of that it rained and it was storming on Christmas Day. My cousin was on the phone talking to me and she said that it was lightning where they were at. We all live in the same town. So on this day, I took some Theraflu and I sliced a lemon and put in it. I felt a little better as time went by. Then the next day, I sliced a lime in some tea that I made. It was very soothing and delicious. So right now, I still have a cold. I am just sneezing and coughing. I have a lot of cold inside of my body. I have to stay constantly blowing my nose. When I wake up in the mornings, my throat has a very scratchy feeling to it. Every year, I get the Flu right after Christmas time. But this year, I got it on Christmas Day. Last year, I was sick on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I was sick for two weeks. Plus my kids were too. I had the Flu really bad. I had a sore throat and fever. In 2006, I had the Flu and as the New Year was coming in, I was in the bed with a high fever. I was feeling so bad that I could not look at the people on T.V. bringing the New Year's in. On Wednesday night, I was helping my son with his homework and all of a sudden, my nose started bleeding. I know that it came from this cold weather. I was blowing my nose quite a bit too. Since it has started being really cold, I have been unable to get rid of my cold. It is like in the late 20 and 30 degrees where I live at. I know that some people are experiencing much colder weather than where I am at. How about you? What is your weather like where you live at?
** I hardly ever get sick. My body is so strong with fighting off illnesses. My Immune System is very strong. But when it gets cold it is like, my body can only fight off the Flu Virus for so long. I eventually will get this illness one way or another.

hello cream,
Here in my country, there were places that having much colder weather compared to the city where i am staying.
In my hometown,it is very chilly...and this is the first time that we never went home for this season.
It is really sad to be tucked in bed while the whole wide world celebrating the New Year.
I also had some colds and cough before X-mas time, and lasted few days after new year.
But this earache is still giving me discomfort...due to blowing noise.
Until now,i am having this earache...it really gives me so much discomfort.
I can remember having this 5 years ago...
Anyway,i hope you are doing fine my friend.Just take care of yourself and health...take more vitamins, much better with fresh fruits.
Ginger tea does good more when i am having sore throat and colds.
Have a good day always...get well soon too

Hi, jaiho2009. I hope that you will be able to feel so much better very soon. And I hope that your earache will go away so that you can feel much better. I have never had an earache before and I could not imagine how one must feel. You may need to see the doctor for this. I hope that you will be able to find some instant and long term relief for your earache. Stay warm and please get well.

Maybe you can try some Saline solution for your nose since it's bleeding. You can buy it at the store, very cheap, and it should help. Sounds like you had the flu first and got something on top of it, like a cold. Poor kid, I feel bad for you. It's been a long time since you're feeling well. A humidifier for the heat in the house helps too, or boiling water on the stove creates humidity in the household which is good for you and the family. And, sometimes just sitting in the bathroom with the hot water steaming in the tub helps your congestion and nose too. Hope you feel better, I hate being sick (knock on wood, so far, so good) this year. Take care.

hi cream 97 I am so sorry you have been so ill, that darned flu always starts with a bad headache then the rest follows soon after. I have been so fortunate this winter so far. just a slight head cold but it sticks around. take care. Its the same old sunny chilly mornings and nights up around sixty to sixty five, one day 80 but again this is Southern California so you can expect anything our nights have been unusually cold down to freezing which is not good for Irvine ranch which grows a lot of our veggies locally here. take care hope you soon get will be feeling great again. hugs hatley.

Lots and lots of hot tea. Inhale the steam before drinking it. Sip it while it is hot or warm. Hot tea and a spoonful of honey will sooth the throat. A big shot of Jack Daniels Whiskey (black label) followed by a Coca-cola will kill all germs that think about invading your body. It is better than NyQuil. Drink this before you go to sleep. It will work while you are sleeping. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I went to Winnipeg, Manitoba for christmas. It is 1400 KM from where I live, in Calgary, Alberta. It is really cold in Winnipeg. They have a nickname for Winnipeg, called Winterpeg.
Most days I was there, 9 days, it never got above -30C. And the winds were so cold that it felt like -40C. I am surprised I never got sick as I am used to Calgary weather where it doesn't usually get colder than -20C and most days it is around , -10C or better.
But when I got home, after 10 days away, I got a cold. I think I must have picked up the bug when I was in Winnipeg and it just took a day or two to hit me. But now I am feeling somewhat better and should be cold free in the next day or two, I hope.

Hope you are feeling well now. The sudden changes in the temperature are making a lot of us feel ill. In our city too now one day it is very cold and the next day it turns hot. This is giving the virus flu to many. I too have had a pain in the throat for many days.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having such a hard time with this flu bug, I hope you get over it soon, sounds like you've been trying to take care of it and yourself. Its true, when the cold weather hits its hard to stay warm. We've been having some cold weather too, ever since Christmas Eve, we had a blizzard that day, and the snow we got is still on the ground now, its been so cold, its not melting, at night it freezes turns into ice. Right now as I'm typing it is 2 degrees, with a wind chill of -12, its really cold out there. We have two wood stoves in our house and they have both been going day and night, trying to keep warm is hard work..haha.

Hi, walijo2008 and manny71. Thanks for both of your advice. It has not snowed here yet. My cousin told me that it would snow on Friday. On Thursday, my husband saw sleet falling from the sky. But still no snow. It is very cold outside. It is 28 degrees here where I live at now. It is very cold. But where you live at, walijo2008 it is very, very, very , very, cold!!! Wow!! Imagine being in 2 degrees of weather. I don't think that I could stand that temperature. I don't think that we will have a blizzard this year. We have not had one in many years. I hope that we keep our 20 degree weather and that is all! I hope that it will warm up very soon where you live at. Please bundle up to the both of you and stay warm as much as possible!

yes i know what you are going through..... it is so cold out and you want to get out of the house to clear your head..... drink lots of liquids make yourself some jello water to get the sugars back into you .... if you can get out of the house once in awhile it will clear your head a bit... and yes it has to run its course... right now the sun is shining so that makes it better even if it is cold out there.... hope you feel better.

Hi cream~ I am so sorry to hear that you are so sick~ If you
are still sick since Christmas then maybe you should go see a
doctor. There isn't a whole lot they can to usually, but it you
are still sick for two weeks then maybe it is time to be checked
out and see if there is something that they can do! You are doing
all the right things by drinking hot liquids and resting! You
need to drink juices too! I'm not sure if the cold weather has
much to do with it! Flu viruses come from being in places where
others have the same virus! Cold air doesn't give you the virus,
that's what I always thought and blamed! I would get checked up
if the symptoms don't get better soon! Please take care of yourself
and feel better soon! Hugs, Opal

Hi, Opal26. I have drunk juice while I was ill too. I had plenty of this as well. I caught the cold from my kids. They all got sick in December. My youngest daughter was the last one to catch the Flu Virus. So, I guess that is how I got it too. I am around them 24/7 and it is very hard for me not to breathe in any of their germs. I always get sick from my kids. It passes onto me quickly. I am feeling much better now. If I feel any worse, I will make sure that I go to the doctor. Thanks for your generous reply.

I am really sorry to hear you have felt so ill.It has been biting cold before christmas and on boxing day my cold started up,felt really rough ,better now though.I find christmas really tiring all the shopping and it so busy.I tend to catch everything if I get run down.Plus the fact I fell over on the ice which did not help .I am not suprised you got a nose bleed did you burst a blood vessel up your nose.We just fill up on fruit and veg all the time,If I don't feel like food I drink fruit juice instead.Plenty of soups and stews full of veg definately keeps the colds at bay plus a few miles a day on my excercise bike a day.A walk out in the air for a while.also helps me.I do hope you feel better soon.

Lord cream, I am sorry that you have been feeling so yucky and I hope that you get feeling better real soon.
We here have all been lucky enough to not get sick yet this winter..I was the only one and it was only for a short 24 hour period and while it made me tired and weak for that day it didn't really do much other than that.
We all had both our H1N1 shot and regular flu shots this year and I am making sure that the house is staying disinfected, coughs are being covered and hands are being washed. Maybe that is helped I am not sure but I will continue to do it just to be safe.

Hi, froggieslover. You are doing what you should be doing. Take care of yourself. We all have gotten the Flu shot and we are all trying to take the necessary measures to keep from getting sick all of the time. We all had seasonal Flu shots and not the spray up our nose. I need to get me some Lysol spray this should work on keeping the germs down. Take care and thanks for your concern.

Hi, alilin28. I feel much better now. I have had slights allergies where I was coughing when I would get up in the mornings. That is because I slept close to my bedroom window. Outside was very cold. That was the reason for me getting a cold. Thank you for asking how I am.

Due to cold, my ribs are paining, no appettite and feeling like vimitting. Our room is not A/C, buit we use hot blower, and with more thatn sufficient inners/wollen garments, covering with quilt and two blankets, I am shivering. I am ubable to leave my bed before 8 AM. It is always foggy and misty. It is since one month now. I Pray Almighty to give some relief.
May God bless You and have a great time.
