I am in need of advice for lowering my cholesterol. It seems I am living in a life of misery. I am suffering from depression from living in a home with a lot of negativism. I get yelled at if I don't finish my meal, and from this I have gained over twenty pounds. I am not able to exercise too well because of have osteo-arthritise. my cholesterol level is over 245. I know I need more than just food advise, but lets start here. I appreciate all who answer my requet. I don't log on too often, so thank you to all.

It seems you need more help that just a dietician advice. You have to stand up and learn how not to let others boss your or belittle you. Regarding food and high cholesterol, my advice is stay away from fatty foods, puff pastries, processed food such as sausages, ham, ice creams, sweets, cheese and other diary products, mushrooms, octopus, prawns.

well garlic is known for lowering cholesterol levels in the flood, so try eating or mixing fried garlic on you meals, or any way you like to eat them cuz raw galic smells and taste bad, so maybe you should increase yoy garlic intake in ways that is tolerable

I have a biology exam next week and cholesterol is one thing that might be on it, so thank you for the free practice exam question haha :D
When you here people talking about 'good' and 'bad' cholesterol they are talking about LDL's and HDL's (lipoproteins that transport the cholesterol around the body.) Now, LDL's (low-density lipoproteins) are the 'bad' cholesterol and they transport cholesterol made from saturated fats. Whereas HDL's (high-density lipoproteins) transport cholesterol made from unsaturated fats. So to lower your amount of bad cholesterol you can lower the amount of saturated fats you intake. Because if you have too many LDL's, instead of moving into cells where they belong, they stay in the blood and can be deposited to form atheromas, which increase your chance of getting cardiovascular disease. HDL's however, transport cholesterol from body tissues to the liver where it is broken down.
So basically, you need to lower the amount of fats in your diet, in particular lower the amount of saturated fats.
Thank you :D
i managed to combine Mylot and revision :)

That i've ever heard, Cholesterol = fat + protein (mixed). Consuming health food + exercise are the wisest choice. Take foods that rich of fiber, mineral, vitamin, n u also need protein n carbohydrate complex(not bad carbohydrate). u can find those things in yoghurt, fruits, vegetables, honey, sweet potato, red/brown rice. Sweet potato n brown rice are better than potato. Don't consume sugar, but consume honey. Honey is very very good for ur health, though for diet n cholesterol. Don't eat bad fat. then eat regularly in a proper portion. Diet doesn't mean "eat once".

Hi lowloy,
Cholesterol can be a tricky thing. I'm not sure how old you are since you mentioned getting yelled at home but whomever does the cooking in the family just let them know the situation. Tell him/her/they how you feel.
Mini advice!
-Tell them that your weight and cholesterol has increased
-Ask them if you can't eat all your meal if you can save it for tomorrow/or take it to lunch the next day.
Also, watch out for fried foods and too many eggs ( if you consume this).
Best of luck
