My toddler asked "Why can't we hear God's voice anymore?"

I read a Children's Bible to my son since he was 2 years old and it would be filled with interesting questions. The toughest one he has asked me is the one above. How would you answer it in a way that a toddler would understand?

hi ludasca
just tell him .. that god does not directly communicate with us, he uses another "medium" to get his message across ..
a short story for u dear, for some i mabe repeating but for u maybe not ...
there was a heavy rain n the whole town flooded, this one man who trust so much ingod actually believed god will help him...
he shouted out .."dear god, help me"
the rain continued and the water raised .. a van stopped, and the man offered a ride.. this man said, dont worry god will help me
the water kept raising ... then came a boat, the people aboard asked him to come ..this man refused again, claiming god will help him..
he climbed to the roof as the water increased ... "God, please help your child"
a few minutes later a helicopter came to offer him a ride .. this man refused again saying god will help..
finally this man drowned and went to heaven ..
he demanded to god, that god did not help his child in time of need ...
god replied, son i came first as a van driver, then on the boat, next i came on a helicopter .. n you refused all my helping hand ..
well .. god comes in all form to communicate with us, for your child he could communicate tru u or others
cheers

I have to say first that I am very saddened by some of the responses you have gotten. I would tell your toddler that we have to WANT to hear his voice (Hebrews 3...Today, if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts..." I would even read that scripture- he/she may not get it right now, but repetition is key. There are many more scriptures, but here is the bottom line: The Lord talks to those who are His. Sometimes we cut Him off when he tells us something we don't like. AND, communication is a two way street, I would tell your toddler that we have to talk to Him, otherwise, he probably won't have a way to really talk to us. AND, He talks to us through HIS WORD in THE BIBLE. Since Jesus sacrificed his natural life, he eliminated the need for a middle man. Angiebblues@yahoo.com

I think I would tell him that God speaks to us in many different ways - through His written word, through His servants here on earth, through that still, small voice that speaks to our hearts and on very special occasions we get to hear Him audibly. But no matter what method God uses, His message to us is always for our benefit.

Hi ludasca .
You can tell him some people do still occasionally hear His audible voice. Had an instructor in Bible Institute that said he had heard God.
But the main way is in our hearts. His Spirit will nudge us one way or another at times. Our conscience, you know. Maybe you can say He does speak by tugging on our hearts. You can also ask him when he is about to make a decision to do the right thing or wrong thing, what does he feel.
Also, God will never tell us something against what the Holy Bible says.
Now, for me, it is mainly that tug or pull on my mind and or heart. Many times it is expressed as words in my mind. This could often be the case in the Holy Bible when it says, God spoke to such and such.
Hope that helps.

Ludasca,
I think I would tell him:
God does still talk with people. He said I am the same yesterday, today and forever. I have heard many people say God spoke to them. That is also how our preacher gets his messages for Sunday.
Our children sometimes seem to comprehend more than we give them credit for. I am always telling my husband to never underestimate them.lol.

I would not be able to answer it even if I wanted to. It is one of the questions that I myself usually ask. The best explanation I could give is that we ask too much when we pray that we never let God answer anymore.

that is nice a question from a very bright kid....okey.....just tell your son that he can still hear Gods voice from the people that sorrounds him, from the food he eats, from the toys he plays and in each day he wakes up.....explain to him that the voice of God is not the same ours but from the love and blessings he recieved.
