Hand lotion--good ones and bad ones

I have dry hands, so I need lotion a lot. Which ones have you found that work well, and the ones that don't work. Avon moisture therapy lotion works the best for me, so far. It has little scent, so it doesn't set off my allergy to smells, and it's very moisturizing. Equate cocoa butter--very thin, doesn't work very well. Feels like water, really. Lots of smell, but able to cope with it. Rainfresh Total for dry skin--very thin, doesn't do a good job either. How about you? What kinds have you found that work or don't?

I have a hard time with body butter. Once you've got in on your hands, isn't it hard to put the lid back on? I just can't get a grip to do it!

yeah..sometimes it's a bit hard but I'm fine with it as long as it keeps my hands moisturized..=) I've read that you love products with Shea butter, there is this one brand that offers shea body butter and oil. just not sure if it's available in your place, the brand is Giga. I so love their products..=)

I agree with you. I have tried also the shea butter lotion and really moisturizes my skin. Yes the smell is long lasting. I have already recommended it to my friends.

I like body-cology. It's kinda new but the scents aren't overwhelming as I have allergies too. I find the fresh water (wahtever it's called) one to be my favorite.

Nice to know I'm not the only one with that problem. Where do you get the bodycology? Is it from a special shop?

I guess I haven't looked around Wal-Mart as much as I thought I had. I've never seen it there. But I will try again. Now that I have a good list of things, I think I'll be taking that list and go a-hunting.

I bought it at Wal-Mart. You might check on line to see where else it might be available. It's not really expensive. It's not greasy either, I hate it when lotions are slimy or greasy.

Is there only one kind of Curel, or do they have multiple types of lotion? Like for dry, super dry, and so on?

Avon skin so soft original works well for dry skin but doesn't leave your skin as soft as Avon skin so soft soft and sensual. There are a couple lotions I will use from the Dollar tree if I run out of Avon. LOL

I tried some different ones from the Dollar Tree. They are still sitting on the shelf. I use them up when I have time, but they don't do anything for my hands. Too thin.

I wish I could remember the name of it. I recognize it by the bottle. It's a white lotion and I think the bottle is a white rectangular shape with green writing. I know what you mean about the thinness. I wrote an article about this and one of the best things to use for your skin is actually petroleum jelly.

i have chemical sensitivity to scents and this triggers my migraines that lasts for two days even with prescription and staying away from the trigger scent. that is why i never venture anymore from my extra virgin olive oil for the hands and body. it could have been the coconut oil that my country produces so much of but it is in the medium comedogenic chart and olive oil belongs to the lowest possibility of it clogging pores so....

You too? I don't get migraines, but I do get sinus headaches from scents. Unpleasant! Do you just put the oil directly on the hands and rub it in?

yup, i just put a few drops of the extra virgin olive oil on my hands, about 2 - 3 drops and rub it. i had some of the oil transferred to an old empty baby oil container. i don't like anybody, even family members, looking at me queerly when i get extra virgin olive oil to put on my hands .

Hi, snowcat. I feel that Vaseline Intensive Care works well for dry skin especially during the winter time. They also have the formula for extra dry skin, you may need to buy this one since you are dealing with extreme dry skin. Another brand would be Eucerin. This works for extremely dry skin too. I hope that you can find what works for you. You can also try Jergen's Ultra Healing Lotion. And Cooca Butter is another lotion that aids in curing dry skin. Curel is another brand too.

Thank you for all the ideas. Do any of these have smells to them? I have to be careful of that. Thanks.

I am not a lotion person but I like the lotions that contain cocoa butter and aloe vera.I have a different experience from you when it comes to cocoa butter because I find it very thick but scented and works well for me.Most of the others though are too thin and tend to dry out my skin.I agree with you that cocoa butter's scent is manageable though .Aloe is a nice one to use ,moisturizes well and can have a nice enough scent

I used a body wash that had shea butter in it, that was my favorite body wash. But I couldn't find any hand lotion with it. The smell was fantastic too, and it didn't affect my allergies. That's why I thought cocoa butter might be similar. I think I just got a cheap brand.

I have very dry skin especially in the winter. I have tried several lotions. There is this one called ecotorin don't know if I speeled that right but it starts with an E. It seems to work very well. It doesn't really have any scent to it. And it is not greasy at all. Another one is Cocoa Butter Lotion. hat works well for me too but I would prfer the other one I mentioned and Nivea works very well! Hope I was able to help. Have a good day and happy mt lotting.

Hi, Snowcat! I have dry hands as well. I think the one works for me is Johnson's Baby Milk Lotion. It has Vitamin A plus E, so, it really works wonder on my skin. I used Nivea before and it actually worked well too, but I just wanted to try some other products and now I stick to Johnson's. I don't like cocoa butter because it's greasy.

Not the one I bought. My Avon Moisture therapy is kind of greasy, but it feels so good I don't mind. It helps me grab things too. Otherwise my hands are too slick.

Hi snowcat, I also have dry hands, maybe because I tend to wash my hands often. Aside from that, the water we use for washing may have very strong chemicals like chlorine. I also noticed when I use hot water for washing hands it tends to dry my skin. I have tried a lot of moisturizing lotion for the hands. There are several kinds available on the market. I have tried the organic ones...those products are usually made from bees' wax, cocoa butter, olive oils which did not stay true to their promise. I also have tried the victoria's secret lotions. They smell soo good but they are quity oily and sometimes sticky so as I apply it, I have to air it dry first before using the computer because they could leave marks in my mouse and mouse pad. THe best product for dry skin is Vaseline intense moisture formula lotion. Have you tried it? it is very effective on my hands. Good thing with this product is non-greasy, and once you applied it, it dries very fast. You don't need to air dry your hands once you applied it. And most of all, it has a very mild scent, and it definitely smoothens skin and it evens out rough edges of dried skin. You don't have to wait for days and weeks in ordor to see and feel the results of this lotion. All you need to wait for it to work is minutes. Hope you could try it too snowcat. Nice topic you started here. Happy mylotting.

You've given quite a very detailed answer. I'm very grateful for that. And your pointing out how it smells and works. I haven't tried this yet. It seemed a bit expensive, and without knowing how it worked, I wasn't ready to try it. Now I think I will. Thank you for your answer.

I don't have dry skin, but i do have an issue with my hands and feet, i can only use one kind of dish liquid, and i can't use different household cleaners, or it sets off my hands to the extent where there are red blotches under the skin, but nothing on top, my skin would still be smooth, so no rash or anything, only hot. So when it comes to hand creams i have to be careful as well, some hand creams sets it off as well, so i stick to a scatter couple, one being vaseline hand cream, i find them really good, and my boyfriend uses it everyday as well.

try this : mix i tsp. of brown sugar and 1tbsp sunflower or canola oil, add a few drops of lavender oil.wash your hands first, while your hand is still wet, apply this scrub mixture, lightly massage for at least 5 minutes, then rinse, pat dry with towel(dont use machine hand dryer, it will only aggravate the skin condition) and apply johnsons baby lotion.you may scrub 3x a week ,but moisturize daily, or even after washing hands.hope this help..

The brown sugar is to exfoliate? Then the oil is to smooth and hydrate? Bet the lavender oil is also to hydrate besides smell fantastic. Am I right? Then the lotion is to seal in the moisture you've put in. Did I guess right?

Amway products are the high quality ones but it's quite expensive. If you're doing amway business or being member then it's good for you since the lotion really works the best for your skin. I use jergens. It really good but it's quite dry slowly compared with botanica face and body lotion. Difference skins differences wants and cares.
