Why are people afraid of Socialism?

Socialism is not all harm, especially when you apply it to only one aspect of our country, and not everything.
We socialize our schools...we socialize our Fire department...we socialize our libraries, we socialize our police departments, and yet people are scared to death of giving the same thing to everyone.
Would you rather it be like a mercenary service for police? People with the most money could get better protection than the people who don't pay? Then murders wouldn't be investigated...etc. Is that a bad thing?
Why wouldn't people give the same courtesy to healthcare? Our taxes go towards police and fire departments after all.

Hi Dluther, I agree with you, socialism is not all bad. Many people get it confused with Communism but nothing could be further from the truth. Every country needs a strong socialist party and even without the name, all democratic countries have it to some extent. Blessings.
