How can Satan exist?

This is just a question I like to pick peoples brains about. Its actually the one question that has stumped me and caused me to rearrange exactly what I believe.

Satan had the ability to choose just like we did. But maybe he knows he's screwed now, so may as well drag as many down with him as possible. What do you think about it all? Its never really bothered me before. I mean, I wanted to know where he came from and the such. But thats pretty much it. Most people pop out with the arguement that where there is light there is darkness.

My problem is that with the powers that the Christian God has there is no scenerio in which Satan should be in existance. It just makes no sense to me anymore.

Oh yea, For sure God could just wipe satan out in a snap and we could all go back to living in some happy joy joy land. God could come down now, spewing gold, curing ailments, stopping wars and going "You don't need to just believe anymore, I'm right here in your face." But this would negate the point of self sacrificial faith in him and all that. We have this awesome ability to choose. If we couldn't choose then we may as well be robots. And that would suck. So the same would go for Satan. He was able to choose as well. Just like you and me. Sorry if that came over preachy or something. Lol, I don't normally do this sorta thing ya know. But it would be cool to hear more on your point.
