What is your understanding of the two? Do you see them as the same thing? Do you think street art is just "Pretentious vandalism". Do you categorize graffiti in that pile? DO you yourself take part in this movement?Personally speaking I would put graffiti in the same pile. Although I do see differences between the two. I doubt hardcore homey G's would describe themselves as street artists. I see street art as more of a way to get your art into the public arena, where it belongs. Rather than in the stale gallery. It won't be judged by things like the framing and who did it. Cause lets be honest, if some of the art in todays galleries were on the streets, they would get ripped down so fast for being disgusting and ugly. Anyways, I could keep rambling or I could let you have an opinion. Go for gold.

Personally I think they are two different things. Street art to me is art with a story. It takes time and some thought before one puts their brushes or spray cans into motion. It is something that cannot be rushed. And when it is completed then the art speaks for itself. My opinion on graffiti is something that someone paints on a railroad car or overpass real fast while no one is looking. Or maybe in the middle of the night. And the drawings are very rough and usually only consists of initials, gang symbols, hearts, lightning bolts, and the classic "I wuz here".
I could look at street art all day but graffite...well I can live without it.
Just my opinion. I mean that all in a good way. : p

For the sake of argument (Although I do agree with what you have to say): Sometimes art is scribbled on with little or no thought. Take those artists who just have tubes of paint which they squirt onto a canvas, and then sell for a couple hundred dollars. A vandal probably shows more skill in the fact he could outrun a guard dog, put his signature on a wall and then gap it. Also different areas start to grow their own styles. Surely that shows some sort of artistic merit.
anyways, thanks for the comment, I think you get the mark for best comment. Lol. grats.

While street art and graffiti may look the same, I see the difference as with street art you have permission to draw or paint. Graffiti is the unlawful painting or drawing on some one elses property. I am not one to constrict a talented person's artistic expression, but that doesn't mean I want it on my garage door. I think the talent just needs to be pointed in the right direction and that is street art.
