Earth religions, Mother Earth, Is the earth a living entity?

A lot of so called pagan or Wicca beliefs revolve around the earth itself. Ever consider that the earth might be a living entity? I am not just talking in the fact that all life on the earth is connected in a ecosystem way but that the earth itself might be a bio organism beyond our understanding? Are we all just parasites living on a larger organism? What about oil maybe it is the fat or actual blood of the earth as it is commonly referred to. This would explain why there seems to be a never ending supply of oil that is suppose to be made up of limited fossils. Or maybe it is a giant machine considering the high amounts of iron on our planet and the fact that the earth has a hum to it like a giant electric motor that produces a gravitational effect. What are your thought on this subject? Is it too far out there like something out of a sci-fi story?

I have no doubt that the Earth is alive. but this does not mean that the Earth is an animal. some people struggle to see non human species of animal as alive, or at least to treat them as such. life comes in many forms. we are alive. non human animals are alive. plants are alive. most people will accept this. beyond that I also happen to believe that there is life in rocks. not life as most people would recognise it. but to me it's unmistakeably there. human beings have souls. other animals have souls to. plants, yes. even rocks. I do believe that there is soul and therefore life in all these things. so if I believe that rocks have life, no matter how different the nature of that life to the one I am currently experiencing, how can I not see life in the Earth itself.

Thank you for the reply. I am glad you brought that up I ran across a guy who made a video that explained that the titanic plates of the earth haven't shifted at all but that the earth itself is actually a living thing and that it has grown and the plates have stretched accordingly. Than it got me thinking like you said what if even rocks are alive, after all our entire universe is growing, or so we are told, so why not planets.

Yes I do believe the earth is a living orb of love. Filled with intelligence to provide all that man needs for his visit here. I adore mother earth.

LOL well "so called" first off is somewhat insulting....that said however...yes Pagan beliefs are based around the Earth BUT I for one think that some of the suggestions you made are just way out in left field though I suppose some ppl (Pagan or otherwise for that matter) may believe them...but to me its sci fi The Earth IS a living being in its own right..and just like any other living being the Earth should be respected, treated properly and appreciated, protected, loved and so on....BUT that believe, mindset etc ISNT just a Pagan thing....Both Buddhism and Native American Spirituality (just to name two) also believe similarly. What about oil maybe it is the fat or actual blood of the earth as it is commonly referred to I've never heard anyone (or read anywhere) that oil is the blood of the earth but I suppose some would say that..I PERSONALLY see water as being the blood of the Earth..of course thats just me...

Thank you for the reply. No disrespect intended with saying "so called" in fact quite the opposite I am not big on saying pagan because it lumps too many religions together and is used as too broad of a term but typically that's how the majority of people view any non-Judaic religion. On the rest of it...Cant believe you have never heard the term "blood of the earth", maybe its more of a Irish or Cherokee term or something but I have commonly heard it growing up in my family. Recently I found other discussions were people have debated the same thing that maybe oil is more than ancient fossil sea beds. This guy has some interesting facts: http://fatknowledge.blogspot.com/2006/08/oil-is-earths-blood.html
