You have to update your blog content regularly but content should search engine friendly. Relevant backlinks will also help to increase your blog rank. You can submit at blog directories, write an article about your blog and submit at article directs. There is a resource box where you can post your link.
Forum signatures are also work as good back link.

Blogging is a lot of work.Its difficult at the beginning stages where u don't have traffic but as u go one and keep building traffic and have original content not just copy paste stuff and of course good writing skills one can make a lot of money out of blogging for best example check out

Recent i read in a article about a blogging seminar happened in India a guy from IIT he is one top bloggers in India and world He said he earns more by blogging than what a computer company can pay him. So if someone studied 4 yrs like hell in IIT and then finally turned up siting home and blogging and making awesome income out of it then how kewl is that.
